The Aesthetics
Both of these logos have lots of pointy edges. I don't know why that matters. Anyway, I like the color schemes in each logo and despite the fact that neither one has existed for very long, I see the Blue Jackets logo becoming a classic... you know, one day when the team actually makes the playoffs and that sort of thing. The Kings have struggled to find an identity when it comes to logos and I feel like this is just another in a long line.

An army is usually at the King's command. But in fact, it was the ancestors of the Blue Jackets who overthrew the King almost a hundred years before. So it's in their blood.

The Analysis
I know it isn't vital for a logo to incorporate the home city, but it's always a nice touch. You've got suns on either side of the crown in the Kings logo and the Ohio flag wrapping around a silver star for the Blue Jackets. I'm also a fan of subtlety in logos and the Kings are guilty. Check out those hockey sticks on top of the crown. If they were blatant, I'd be hesitant, but since they aren't, they'll help the Kings logo avoid the sweep. One more match left for each logo in this tournament.

I agree with Pundit - these changes are so minimal - when you have a great logo like philly does, why play with it?

I thought David Beckham officially put Soccer over the NHL as the #4 sport in america. The NHL is less popular than scalp lice here in the states so the question remains despite the new unis...who will actually see them?

I guess that's a vital question, a matter of discussion - but that drives me crazy. as a canadian, hockey is here and hockey is watched and it's never going away and either is the NHL. so it is infuriating to read/hear the discussions about how to make the game American-friendly.
I can't imagine anything I'd rather see less. I don't know how to make more Americans watch more hockey but the point is more - I don't care. I just appreciate the ones who do.

Good for you! I am an American, and a major hockey fan for 10+ years (when I started to follow the Lightning more closely & started attending games) and for the life of me don't understand why some of my fellow Americans find the game "dull", "boring", "hard to follow the puck", etc. I love the game, and find it much more action-packed than baseball (which I also love).

But on the other hand, the thing that bothers me about Canadian and American hockey fans from up North is the constant barage of comments made that hockey doesn't belong in the South, that this team or that team needs to be moved to another city, usually one in Canada. Two teams, my Lightning & the Dallas Stars, have great fanbases, and have for many years. Carolina's fan base has improved considerably since winning the Stanley Cup, and Nashville looks like it's staying put for now.

I honestly don't think the game needs to be changed to make it more "American-friendly". I think the NHL just needs to just market it a little differently. Oh, and they also need to get rid of the commisioner, the most inept one in the history of the sport!

I am one of those who would rather see a new team go up here, in canada, as opposed to vegas or I don't know baton Rouge.
but i do have alot of respect for the teams that earned it, and Tampa bay, carolina, dallas and nashville (although they are no longer the team they used to be) are some of those teams. They proved in Fla and Texas that they have a true fan base.
Tampa bay is always a favourite of mine.
I wonder how long Bettman will hang on.

You have to admit, the Islanders logo is the perfect Logo. It has everything in there: Long Island, a hockey stick and puck.
