It's the NHL's job to make their product attractive to viewers, not just NBC's. All NBC can do is may around with graphics, hire announcers, and promote the product. Over the course of their contract they've learned that this is one show that isn't attracting viewers. If this were anything but sports the network would've pulled the plug on it months ago. All networks do the best they can do get watched; it's not like they intentionally are tanking hockey. But the Preakness had a higher ad rate and more viewers. What was NBC supposed to do?
