Re: 2006/07 trophy finalists named

From what i understand is, this voting is done pre post-season. It doesn't matter who sweeps the first round or who wins the Cup.
It's the year they voted on. Is that wrong?
And I say, give Brodeur the Hart and then give the Vezina to kiprusoff or Luongo - like the Academy Awards - give the supporting actor to one and give the best actor to the other.
Fair.
But I also think, saying Crosby over brodeur works for me. Crosby brought exciting back to hockey everywhere, and especially in Pittsburgh.
hey Gotham, i feel like we haven't spoken in a while - good to hear from you.

hey blueandwhite girl, I am on the road on business and really have not been able to get into the playoffs ...hard to jump in when I do not know what's happening...but perhaps you can run a "catching Gotham up on the basics thread... "

Re: 2006/07 trophy finalists named

10-4, big buddy.
The goteamsgo hockey site has been taken over by crazed Buffalo Sabres fans who run on pure adrenalin. There is no irony anymore, just big loud cheers of We're Number One. I think Chris Drury is up for President or Supreme Ruler, either one, your guess as good as mine.
The western side is quieter, as usual - but they're sneaky - San Jose and Anaheim are slowly creeping up behind us - modest yet great. But it's the eastern Division that is more exciting right now anyway because honestly, who is going to meet in the next round?

Cool Re: 2006/07 trophy finalists named

The voting is done before the playoffs.

My choices:
Hart: Crosby
Calder: Statsny
Vezina: Luongo

Adams: Vigneault (out of those choices) but Nolan should be a finalist instead of Ruff. I'm not saying Ruff didn't do a good job, but look at the talent and the teams expectations going into the season. But then again, the NHL appears to give the Islanders no respect.

Also, now that I'm thinking about it. Why does there need to be finalists? What is this, the Academy Awards. Just let the writers vote for who they think should win.

I'm still torn between Crosby or Broduer as MVP. Both of them had amazing seasons and are worth of the honor.

to Pundit - yeah, the finalists thing makes it sound like a beauty contest.
And Nolan should have been up there, maybe 4 choices instead of 3 - because i also can't argue Ruff, Vigneault or Therrien.

Well, you know how I hate to jump on a band wagon...can't back the Sabres...I think I am going with the Sharks and Ducks...give me a day or two to catch up...I am finally off the road.

I'm didn't mean to knock Ruff. He's a very good coach. But why do they need the choices? The writers are smart enough that they can choose from a finite number of 30 coaches.

Re: 2006/07 trophy finalists named

so awards go tonight in Toronto.
I'm going to try to make a guess in each category.
Hart - Crosby
Lester b Pearson - Crosby
Norris - Pronger
Vezina - Luongo
Calder - Jordan Staal
Selke - Pahlsson (even though votes were cast before the playoffs)
Lady Byng - St. Louis
Jack Adams - Vigneault

There were other "awards listed in the paper today, like Best Trade (Luongo, Pronger or Smyth?) and Most Disappointing Player (Rick Nash, Sergei Samsonov or Anson Carter?)
Some points worth repeating - Columbus is the only NHL team never to have made the playoff; and the Players on the Rise award includes Mr. Ryan Getzlaf, who we all know well now and I like him, Jordan Staal, and yes he is great, and surprise - Kyle Wellwood of the Toronto maple leafs.

Re: 2006/07 trophy finalists named

wow - i got the crosby ones right and Vigneault- that's it.
the Hart goes to Crosby as does the Lester B; Lidstrom gets the Norris, Brodeur gets the vezina, Malkin gets the Calder, Brind'Amour gets the Selke and Datsyuk gets the lady Byng.
I made some wrong calls.
All star team named is:
Crosby, heatley, Ovechkin, Lidstrom, Scott Neidermayer and Brodeur.
All rookie team named is:
Malkin, Stastny, Jordan Staal, Matt Carle, Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Mike Smith in goal.
