NHL Players: What's in a Name?

There are some funky names in the NHL.
I bet Jersey held the record for longest names on a jersey when they had Joe Nieuwendyk and Jamie Langenbrunner.
Then there's the Finns (Kapanen Kukkonen Jokinen Lehtinen Numminen Nurminen Timonen)
I think Cujo's got the best nickname, and I think Bates Battaglia sounds like a soap opera name, and what's with all the Coreys?
Then there's the guys who sound like something is going on:
Steve Passmore (should he?)
Stephane Yelle (does he?)
Zhamnov (could he?)
Kuznetsov (is it?)

Cool first names?
Mikka
Jean-Sebastien
Cristobal
Rostislav
anybody named Vlad

Cool last names?
Pandolfo
Knuble
Brind'amour
Globke
Isbister
Commodore
Sturm

Cool first AND last names?
Maxim Afinogenov
Nikolai Khabibulin
Yevgeni Nabokov
Lyle Odelein
Ziggy Palffy
Jozef Stumpel

Runner up with most funky name?
Miroslav Satan - he would have won if he actually pronounced it like you know who - plus would up his scary factor (like his facial hair does already)

And the coolest, by my vote, of all?
Sandis Ozolinsh

Can other sports compete?

Blueandwhite you are such a girl ...Cristobal?...good gosh, what guy would want to be named Cristobal?...you just reminded me of one of my college professors ...she was a poet and a composition teacher and liked saying my name cause it sounded poetic to her....and all the while I am thinking..."look, I would have perfered to have been named Spike, or Nick, or Jared or something not poetic sounding to you at all"...geez...girls...

Re: what's in a name?

I suppose gotham dark night does roll off the tongue.
Vlad is a manly name, no? Satan?
I don't know if it's so much girly, as I just like saying isbister over and over again. and not in a breathy way.

Points given for wit... ...maybe I should have gone by Gotham Dark Knight in college...that should have stopped my professor...

Vlad is very acceptable...I can live with Vlad...maybe not so much with Vladimir...but the shorter Vlad...has potential....and I can see the mass potential in Satan...gives you that edge as a hockey player...though I am not sure I can pronouce Isbister...then again, I can't pronounce too many words, I am more of a math guy...

The best name of anyone in any sport that I ever heard was the German weightlifter Gerd Bonk!

You forgot about Janne Niinimaa (Pronouced Yah-nee, Nin-im-uh).

Other great names in sports: Cocoa Crisp, Milton Bradley, Dick Trickle (racing) & UCLA hoopster: Luc Richard Mbah a Moute.
