Forsberg vs. Sundin

just thought this was interesting.
Sundin is 2 years older and two years ahead of Forsberg in the draft, but they showed the numbers for each during last night's game Leafs vs. Philly and I was surprised at the gap.
Total games played:
Forsberg 635 Sundin 1146
Total points:
Forsberg 813 Sundin 1147
Forsber's had his injury problems, I know (knee, groin, bursa sac). He's one of those players that comes back and is still great (unlike say, Lindros).

Good find Blue, I never would have guessed that.

To be fair, Forsberg is best compared to that other Leaf Lindros...They started out their careers traded for each other...and share the same injury plague legacy...and are both physical types of players...

Lindros numbers are also closer than Sundin's too...711 games, 839 points....

Of course, to do this we would still have to consider Lindros a Leaf...and...well...I guess he still is...

Re: Forsberg vs. Sundin

suppose you're right - guess I compared the two swedes because they are teammates internationally and both superstars consistently, you know? But lindros also makes a really interesting comparison.
Plus Forsberg is so talked up about being a superhero and Sundin is very quiet but just as - hey more - powerful. just doesn't have the SC ring.

..And here I was thinking its because you just don't consider Lindros a Leaf any more...see what happens when I try to think...its scary...

Re: Forsberg vs. Sundin

Man, Forsberg's PPG blows Sundin's out of the water.

Those stats aren't a huge surprise, given Forsberg's injury probelsm in the past. I mean, he hardly played at all in 03-04.

yes, but is he a quiet Swede?...cause that's part of the equation...If you multiply Sudin's point by a quiet factor of say 1.65...well then...

Re: Forsberg vs. Sundin

consistency, i guess, is the issue - can you count on someone or do you just hope for periodic spurts of genius. works either way, i guess, except you wonder if forsberg's time as captain are done, with recurring injury.
which sort of leads to my next question - what is it about derian hatcher that makes guys want him as captain?

I tend to like the mad genius that may or may not suit up...consistency is predictable...give me talented and erratic any day...though you do expect your captain to show up to work more often than not...

PS was the ratio not rigt then?...It isn't (sudin's PPG) x (1.65 quiet factor constant) > (forsberg's PPG)???

Re: Forsberg vs. Sundin

Yeah, there's something to be said for a player's ability to stay healthy. Still, I'd take Forsberg any day, because he does so much on the ice. He is one of the best hockey players in the world because of his ability to set up plays and quarterback a power play, physically control play, outmuscle opponents. On top of all of that, he's a skilled skater, can make a pretty pass, and has a wicked shot. He can do it all.

I've always liked Sundin a lot, but I don't think most players in the league are as complete a player as Forsberg.

(And as for his leadership days, they're over. Hatcher is the captain now and my money says Forsberg retires after the next season or two.)

Re: Forsberg vs. Sundin

Tell me what it is about hatcher that makes him leader quality stuff. not starting anything, just very curious how he continues to be appointed (I gotta admit, he seems like a real hothead).

and GDK - I agree with said- constant quiet factor (humble is sexy)

see...I should have known I was doing it wrong all these years...geez...if I had only known...here I thought egocentric, outspoken and outgoing was the ticket...how could I have been so wrong?...I should adopt a new mantra..."humble is sexy"...let you know how it works out for me...

Well, he captained Hitch's team to a Stanley Cup victory and helped get them to the finals two years in a row. While it's easy to argue his best days are behind him, he's still a physical presence on the ice.
