Cool NHL ridiculous schedule

The NHL may be dumber than MLB when it comes to so many common sense things: They have 3 NY-Metro Teams, the Devils, Isles, and Rangers all playing on the same night.

Did the genius in his own mind, Gary Bettman, ever think to look at the schedule to approve it?

All 3 teams play on the same network, which means depending on your cable system, it may be hard to find your team's games.

You can't make this stuff up.

Re: NHL ridiculous schedule

Unfortunately, the schedule is decided before the season starts and they can't predict where the three NY-Metro teams will finish in the standings.

But they don't make the playoff schedule until after the season ends.

Re: NHL ridiculous schedule

Plus it looks like the Isles are the lowest priority of the three. It sucks that some Isles fans may not be able to watch the game.

Re: NHL ridiculous schedule

That does suck.
Us up here, I'm sure, will get the Buffalo-islanders game.

Cool Re: NHL ridiculous schedule

Yeah - Although I have to figure out where it is, I'll get all the games. I'm guaranteed that by my cable system. But other people who have Direct TV, or whatever...might have trouble seeing their favorite team. And it could change from game to game.

If there's a Game 6, I'll be there. 1st row seats.

Actually they do, the dates are already set but the teams aren't, so the schedule has the date, the conference and the position of the team, the teams themselves are the last to be filled in. It's a terrible way to do it but I guess for TV and arena scheduling it has to be done that way.

Cool Re: NHL ridiculous schedule

Oh. I didn't know that. Now they're seperated a bit. Islanders tonight, Rangers tomorrow. Which means I have to ride the train both ways with liquored-up Ranger fans. Maybe I'll drive in.

Re: NHL ridiculous schedule

the most ridiculous thing about the scheduling is the inconsistency between games. It used to be every second day a game was played and now to satisfy the non existant US TV market, the games are screwed up like in the Ottawa-Pittsburgh series and the Detroit-Calgary series.

For sure, the Ottawa sced was a joke. We played Weds, then Sat and Sun... 1 game 3 days off then 2 games in a row...It was like last year when our playoffs interfeared with Dora the Explorer at ScotiaBank place.

Re: NHL ridiculous schedule

dora vs. Alfredsson - who knew she'd win?
The ottawa thing has been a joke - how many afternoon or 6 o'clock games?
Buffalo/islanders and Tampa bay/jersey are getting the primo spots up in the Toronto area. which is weird.

Cool Re: NHL ridiculous schedule

The Islanders-Sabres series has been every other day. That's the way every series should be. It gives the players just enough rest and doesn't kill the momentum and continuity. And like Pickled Willy says, the TV market is non-existent, anyway.
