| Backing off on instigator? GMs are discussing whether or not the league should allow the protection of the skill players by the "policemen".
who is leading this change? Brian Burke, Anaheim's GM, and his team happens to be leading the NHL in fighting majors.
instigators are given a 2 minute minor, a five minute major and a 10 minute game misconduct, with a game misconduct if they offend again.
Burke wants the player given 5 or 6 chances before he gets kicked out.
I like that - 5 or 6. 7 or 8. 9 or 10.
He says it's their job to protect.
Penguins GM Shero is against it even though they are a highly affected team (poor Mister Crosby). TO Ferguson GM - thinks changing it would be a "public relations njghtmare", and says Crosby is doing just fine.
Players Ass. has always wanted the instigator penalty repealed, but it's not a big issue for them now.
Chelios says the hooking and holding calls are too much. i actually agree with him. Hm. |
