Three points for win? debate

They've been working it out - how would it affect the points system if they changed the numbers and awarded 3 points for a win in regulation time, 2 for an OT or SO win, 1 for an OT or SO loss and still zero for a loss in regulation time.
Thing is, when they fool around with the numbers, it doesn't affect the standings much, at least not in the East right now. leafs would be in 8th (tied with TB Lightning) place instead of ninth. sabres would be number one, and they already are. Devils would be number two and they already are.
But out in the west, the Sharks would go from 5th where they are currently, to 2nd, switching spots with the Ducks. Sharks have played 2 OT/SO games only, so 34 regulation game wins would be big, make them first in the Pacific Division.
It's all academic at this point.

Cool Re: Three points for win? debate

You're right Blue. That kind of stuff usually evens itself out. And the standings would be the same, or at least close to the same.
