Cool NHL All star game TV ratings plummet

Wow
Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) -- TV watchers didn't exactly warm up to the NHL's midweek All-Star game, which experienced a 76 percent drop in household viewership from the previous All-Star game in 2004. Wednesday night's game in Dallas drew a 0.7 Nielsen rating on Versus, the cable channel formerly known as OLN. The game was viewed in an estimated 474,298 households and by 672,948 viewers, down from the 1,985,000 households that saw the 2004 All-Star game on a Sunday afternoon on ABC.

Re: NHL All star game TV ratings plummet

That's bad, bad, bad.

Shows the NHL suits right for deciding on holding the All-Star Game on a Wednesday night when they should've done it the weekend with no football around.

And besides, did anyone really know the all-star game was on? Let alone on Versus?

An All-Star game for a sport few Americans care about in the first place, on a network very few people get, aired midweek, and opposite the uber-popular American Idol no less. Yeah, you gotta love the NHL's thinking here. This league seriously needs to fire whoever it was negotiated the most recent TV contract. Taking less money to stay with ESPN would've been a much better move in the long run.

Vers--what?

Talk about exclusive rights!

Down, Down, Down...There goes the NHL!

But have you noticed the new NHL store in Times Square? Unfortunately, the must've planned wrong because it is opening after the season.

Re: NHL All star game TV ratings plummet

On my cable package, Versus is literally the last channel available on the line-up...after all the digital movie channels and whatnot. If a person is flipping through, I doubt they find it. And besides, the NHL is terrible at advertising their product so I guess by the ratings, many people didn't watch.

Re: NHL All star game TV ratings plummet

The NHL has worse advertising skills than minor league organizations.

Somebody should go back to training.

New Slogan for the NHL on TV..."Come watch us, if you can find us"

Ha ha! I like it! Of course, it'd be funnier if it wasn't completely true.

Maybe it's time for the NHL to try a new commissioner. How can Bettman allow an all star game in which they're trying to sell the next "Gretzky" and create some national interest, allow the game to be on a "pay" channel?

Bettman has gone a long way to destroying hockey...I want to see a marketing guru...

Maybe they can team up with Donald Trump and have a "Next Commissioner" reality show...

Re: NHL All star game TV ratings plummet

I feel bad, because ever since I moved to the left coast, my interest in hockey went from being my favorite sport to follow, now I barely know it exists. It's a shame to, it looks as if Hockey won't be around too much longer unless something dramatic happens.

Bettman was supposed to be a marketing guru. After all, he was a direct disciple of David Stern.
