Suit also names Orca bay sports and entertainment which is the parent company of the Canucks, and then the Canucks themselves.
His parents are also asking for $1.5 mill in damages for "nervous shock and mental distress".
Bettman wants to meet with lawyers representing bertuzzi and moore to reach an out of court settlement.
We all have our opinions of the bertuzzi/Moore thing. I thought, as soon as i heard about this civil suit, yuk. In Canada, suing each other for horrendous amounts of $$$ does not happen. It is an American phenomenon.

Can we counter sue for the mental distress they are putting fans through with thier over blown law suit... Laws iare there to make one whole, not make one rich...

well they aren't set up that way...t(hough there seems to be no caps on this sort of thing)...its the people in the jury who think..."lets stick it to the corporations"....not realizing that its just going to be passed back to the consumer in the form of higher ticket prices and outrageous food prices...dummies...

I hate lawsuits like this. Dude, you signed up to play hockey. It's not chess, checkers, or tiddlywinks. It's one of the more physical sports out there. You had to know something like this was possible. That said, I'm stunned that there isn't some kind of waiver of liability in NHL contracts.

Something illegal is just that, illegal, you can't expect something like that to happen. If it was a clean, legal check, he wouldn't(or shouldn't) be mad. besides, you said possible, possible and probable are two seperate things.

Yep...a big difference there...where a jury of your peers (or at least those that didn't have a legit reason to get out of jury duty) gets to put a $ value on things like pain, suffering, and how many goals Moore might have scored...and since its not thier money to give, the sum is always a bit high for my taste.

that's true, but were they harsh enough? Bertuzzi playing still, only missing what, 20 games, while Moore is still out, missing 100+ games? That's just my personal opinion, but the league still should have kicked Bertuzzi out for ruining another players career.

it's probably the most controversial episode in hockey - and yeah, you know? bertuzzi leaving the country, playing or coaching in europe - that might give him some time to move past all the press etc.

Moore deserves money. Yes, this is hockey, but it's not the cheapshot games. Give Moore his compensation. His parents, though? That's a bit overboard, I suppose.
