The Lambeau Leap

Hey, guys - we all know that the Lambeau Leap is one of the more unique and exciting touchdown scoring celebrations in pro football. But who started it? How was it developed? Anyone know?

Re: The Lambeau Leap

Packers wide reciever Robert Brooks started it after scoring a touchdown. I believe it was 1996 the year the Pack won the Superbowl over the Patriots. Nowadays many players like Randy Moss do it. Terrell Davis started the Mile-High salute in case youre wondering about that.

Re: The Lambeau Leap

I guess when players besides Packers do it, they call it simply "The Leap"?

Re: The Lambeau Leap

Hello, sorry to bring back an old thread but trashed was wrong when he said that robert brooks started it. It was actually leroy butler that did the first lambeau leap. He did it in a game against the oakland raiders in 1993. Robert brooks did perfect the leap and he almost gets credit for it every time.

Welcome and thanks for the update...Bulter's problem was not trade marking the darn thing and calling it the "Leroy Leap"...thus with the name Lambeau Leap and Brooks perfecting the darn thing...Butler is left as a small footnote in the history of the game...

Re: The Lambeau Leap

Bringing back this oldie-but-goodie because I just saw a bit about it on Wikipedia.

Quote:
The "Lambeau Leap"
Many Packer players jump into the end zone stands in a celebration affectionately known as the "Lambeau Leap." The Lambeau Leap was "invented" by LeRoy Butler after a Reggie White fumble recovery and lateral against the L.A. Raiders in December 1993, and later popularized by wide receiver Robert Brooks. [5][6]

Today, the Lambeau Leap is a popular touchdown celebration done by many players (on many different teams). Though it is always known as a Lambeau Leap when a Green Bay Packer does it, the term is also sometimes used when a player on another team does it.[citation needed]

Occasionally, a visiting player will attempt a Lambeau Leap, only to be denied by Packers' fans. The most recent of which occurred when then-Minnesota Vikings cornerback Fred Smoot intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown[7].
Anyone here have a favorite Lambeau Leap? Which one was the most memorable, Packer fans?

Not a Packer fan, but Brett did it once. That was classic Brett.
Seems like Darren Sharper tried it too. Operating word being tried. He was a Viking at the time.

Re: The Lambeau Leap

Just an aside note here: My husband's 82 year old aunt is a devoted Packer fan. We talked about seeing a game in person and where we would like to sit. She said she'd like to sit right at the end zone where the players jump in the stands!!
