Goodell tells Packers Wrap up Favre Fiasco

ESPN's Chris Mortenson reports that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has advised Packers GM Ted Thompson to move on without Favre if thats what they intend to do.
Apparently this was what spurred the Packers to make phone calls in an effort to find a trade partner.
The only realistic move is to send Favre to another team or he will be lurking in the background the whole season.

YES, thank you Mr. Goodell from the bottom of my heart.

What a great commissioner we have in Roger Goodell. I mean whether it's arrests, drug abuse or even this indescribable Favre mess I have to admit that this man gets things done and doesn't take any sh**!! I heard him described on WFAN radio as "the new sheriff in town" and boy this guy is the Wyatt Earp of the NFL!!

In all seriousness, doesn't this bother anyone? What business does the commish have trying to get involved in the dealings between a player and a team, forcing the team to try and bring an end to it. Doesn't that hurt their leverage for a potential trade? Should Goodell be able to do that, especially since he's clearly made it known he wants this player in the league, and he doesn't care what the Packers have to do to make that happen?

Re: Goodell tells Packers Wrap up Favre Fiasco

You know, I do agree to a point. But I don't think, given the teams power to drop players on a whim, that is really does anyone any good to drag this out.

I think all he is saying is do a deal, or don't do a deal. All this drama queen stuff is old, from both sides.

If they don't intend to play him, weigh the options, and pull the trigger.

Much as I think Brett has also handled this poorly, lets give him a chance to play, if that is what he wants.

To hold him in Green Bay and have him as a back up just can't be good for the team.

On one hand, Brett as a back up is a great plan. But Aaron will never get a chance to grow with the big shadow over him.

Just do a deal Packers, so the league can start talking about something else.

I miss em talking about TO and Pacman, or Romo not being able to win a playoff game.

Or Mcnabb talking about how the Eagles are the best team in the NFC.

Re: Goodell tells Packers Wrap up Favre Fiasco

I think Phils hit this one right on the head. He isnt telling them they have to trade him, they just have to do something to make it go away. Just settle it. This has the potential to mess up the NFL but good.
As a back up to Rodgers, bad idea. The least little thing and fans will be screaming for Favre back.
Dusty, I agree Goodell stands up to people, but he also has a tendency to try to totally control the League. He has the right idea about cleaning up the league but he a tendency to get carried away into things that arent really up to him. Mark my words, we will be calling him "KING" Goodell someday.
