Favre shows at Lambeau Field

As expected, Brett Favre showed up at Lambeau to introduce former Packers center Frank Winters for induction into the team's HOF.
He spoke for 3 minutes but did not address his tug of war with the team about his retirement.
Said Favre:
“That’s the thing about Green Bay,” said Favre. ”It’s a special place. There’s a lot of tradition. You think of the Packers, you think of all these great names, and to be a part of that — and I know Frank feels honored — is a special thing. I’m thankful that he asked me to be here.”
He also received the team's annual MVP award and called himself "an old gray haired quarterback showing I can still do it."

Ok, there are those who are going to disagree with me, but I think he handled it quite gracefully.

From the sounds of it, yeah, he handled this well. The only possible issue is the comment about showing he could still do it.

Why is that an issue?...he can say that until the day he goes on the field and proves other wise...

He is being handed an MVP...he was a gray haired old QB when he had the season that won it...in that content it is okay to make the statement, why not?...are we down to the guy needing a PC speech writer to nail every word??? He did the best he could with an other wise awkward situation.

I would guess that the statement covers the time up until he received the award. To maintain that status he will have to prove himself on the field .... somewhere.

True enough, but to me it just sounds like a dig at the team. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Why a dig?...The man obviously feels like he can play...a dig would be..."despite what the Packer's front office thinks of me, I am still a great old gray haired QB"...that would be a dig...I would think...the man is free to think of his talents how he wishes.

Well, at any rate, I do think that it sounds like he was very respectful, regardless.
How about the missing story here, though. Frank Winters, in the Packers Hall of Fame! I love it. The big guy definitely earned it!

Ha ha, sorry, man. I'm suffering from Brett Favre overload. Besides, it was Winters big moment. Let's let him have it!

Re: Favre shows at Lambeau Field

You know Brett might have said exactly the same thing about the gray haired qb even if there had not been this big blow up about the retirement. No one would think anything about it in that case. I think Brett was under fire all year long because he had to show he could still do it. I know I kept waiting for him to falter but he never did. He could have just as well been responding to that pressure as well any anything else.
And dont think he needs a pr person. Just because he is a wily gray haired quarterback, he knows how to keep his mouth shut when he needs to. Unfortunately, lately he has chose not to.

Re: Favre shows at Lambeau Field

The Packers should treat Favre as Vince McMahon treats Chris Benoit...erase him from their history as much as possible. He's a disgrace of human being. Give #4 to some rookie punter and tell Brett to retire the way the Cowboys told Danny White.
