| Favre asks Packers to release him Well, it's official: Brett Favre wants to come back and play in 2008, and he doesn't want to do it with the Packers. The 38-year-old quarterback has asked Green Bay to release him, according to media reports this afternoon. He also claims that he felt pressured to retire back in March, and that neither Packers general manager Ted Thompson or coach Mike McCarthy wanted him to come back and play in 2008. So where does he wind up going? Favre asks Packers for release - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

| Re: Favre asks Packers to release him Alright, we've know Brett wanted to come back for over a week now, and we've know that Packers don't want him back for about a week now. I think Brett Farve figured out that the Packers didn't want him, so he wants out and wants to play somewhere with someone who wants, the Ravens, the Bears, the Vikings, or maybe even the Redskins. This is just getting crazy

Believe me..... we don't want him in Miami! Didn't Brett learn from Montana? The niners let him go without bating an eye and Brett is nothing compared to Joe! Another great qb who has had his ego feed for years and just can't accept that his day is done. Say what you want about Dan Marino.....The greatest qb never to win a ring but when his time was up he knew it and went out with class and dignity..... not like this putz in greenbay!! Joe willie Nameth....another ego driven qb that couldn't stop!! I remember him sitting on the bench in LA just dying....... As always history repeats it's self |

| Re: Favre asks Packers to release him Interestingly enough, a side note here... Cris Carter was on Mike & Mike in the Morning yesterday, and told a story about how he essentially talked Marino out of coming back and playing for the Minnesota Vikings. So maybe not even he was 100% sure when it was time to go. Unitas, Namath, Montana, Simms, Favre... it just seems to be in the make up of a quarterback to never want to stop playing the game. |

As we know that didn't happen weither it was he that decided or someone else who persuaded him. He didn't do it and I bet if you ask him he would say he was glad he didn't do so. |

| Re: Favre asks Packers to release him I read this yesterday too and I have to say I have lost a lot of respect for Brett Favre. This back and forth stuff is ridiculous. At first I thought it was just the media but the story just didnt go away. So there must be something to it. If he didnt want to quit, all he had to do was say so. Any team would have been glad to get him. And I agree Marino was one of the greatest ever. Ring or no ring. I still want to see Favre coming out of the tunnel on Monday night football wearing purple on the the same night they retire No. 4.

| Re: Favre asks Packers to release him Minnesota's a real possibility. From what I hear, it could be them, Carolina, Chicago, Tampa Bay or the Jets. I'm with you, Bette. Favre's gone down a whole lot in my book due to this fiasco. He made the decision to retire and should've stuck with it. |

I never said he had steller performances towards the end of his career. Everyone knew it was time for him go...including himself which is what he did. In fact he didn't retire with a bunch of tears either |

| Re: Favre asks Packers to release him So tears and class don't go together? And Favre coming off a great season should not have any doubts?...Marino knew it was time to go, cause it was time to go...Favre...it could go either way... |

What's it to ya?...you got Packer season tickets?...you paying his salary?...your team plays in the same division?...anything?...let the man whine all he wants, all you got to do is turn off ESPN when he is on...now if you had bought Packer season tickets, you might, might have a point...you have no skin in the game...and picking on Favre is about as whiny as Favre crying about his life...you are all in the same boat from my view point...so move over Brett Favre, make room for the GTG whiny crowd!...

Seriously, though, Goth, it's not like it's just us. Go check out any Packers message board or forum. You'll find at best a 50-50 split for and against Favre. Did you ever imagine that would be the case with Brett Favre? I sure didn't. Why, I was just over at one board reading through the comments. They called him a crybaby, a horrible teammate, selfish, washed up. A couple of folks came solidly to his defense, and a few admitted they were sick of him but they still would give him a shot to start, in spite of it. Some blamed Thompson and the coach for mishandling things, unfairly blaming Favre for the playoff loss, etc. But a whole lot of people were sick to death of him, all but begging him to stay retired. So it's hardly an isolate sentiment. |
