Favre was ready to 'un-retire' in May

The Green Bay Press Gazette confirms through multiple sources that Brett Favre has indeed contacted the Packers about returning, and that his relationship with GM Ted Thompson partly led to his retirement.
There is no doubt Favre talked to coach Mike McCarthy about coming back two weeks ago, despite Favre's claims to the contrary. It's also clear through Favre's family and this report that Thompson doesn't want Favre back. The Gazette says Favre would have "un-retired" as early as May if Thompson had asked him back, but that didn't happen. Thompson reportedly isn't returning Favre's agents calls. This is all a little childish on both sides, but Favre can force Thompson's hand by being definitive about his plans. It's debatable whether he'll be willing to do so.

Yes I believe he can force Thompson's hand due to his enormous popularity in Green Bay and as an NFL future Hall Of Famer and I also agree that Brett Favre is being childish, not that it's anything new for Brett. I disagree about Thompson being childish however though. I wouldn't return the phone calls of a selfish, indecisive, drama queen either unless it's to give him a 20 year contract to just GO AWAY!!!

Re: Favre was ready to 'un-retire' in May

Brett Favre reminds me of the type of guy who one day will show up at his kid's little league games with his Packer jersey on, carrying a football, looking around for some kind of reporter to talk to at age 48. Then when a reporter asks about Brett's kid he would refrain from his football poses and talking about how unselfish he is for a moment and with a blank stare reply, "Who?"

Eh, Favre's no better or worse than Roger Clemens. Or any boxer who's ever stepped into the ring.
