Is a veteran quarterback needed?

The Packers went from being a team with one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the league to one with three greenhorns. Aaron Rodgers shows promise but he is injury prone, and his replacements are greener than he is.
Who does Rodgers turn to when he hits a rough patch and needs advice?
The good news is that they have plenty of offensive weapons to make the job easier.
The other good news is that Wrecks Grossman is not their starter.

They still have Craig Nall but dont think he is a mentor type. I am thinking that no matter how well the rookies come along, they still need that veteran presence. Agree??

Re: Is a veteran quarterback needed?

There's always a journeyman veteran quarterback looking for a team and willing to negotiate a team friendly contract so perhaps the Pack should start looking around.. Let's just hope it's not Culpepper for the Packers sake.

Now wait a minute. That might not be as ridiculous as it sounds at first. Vinnie would be an excellent mentor. He has great work ethics. Which young qb was it that said they learned a lot from Vinnie? Pack has enough weapons that he can go out and throw the ball around till one of the youngsters gets their stuff together.

Re: Is a veteran quarterback needed?

Vinnie is officially done as an NFL Quarterback ladies and gents though he would make a fine QB coach IMO. This time when a team calls him mid-season and he's on the couch? According to Vinny he's gonna stay on the couch!

Maybe later Seaking, but not at first. Unless Rodgers struggles or gets hurt again. In that instance, I hope Brohm is ready. I know that some quarterbacks do better getting thrown to the wolves right away, and some dont. I have seen too many good ones get thrown out too soon and pay for it dearly.
Rodger sat behind one of the best. He showed some great stuff in that game against the Cowboys. I am just afraid he will get hurt again.
By the way, you are new here arent you?

Re: Is a veteran quarterback needed?

while i agree a mentor is always a good thing .... why are we so sure Rodgers will hit such a rough patch ?

ask Tom Brady and the Patriots how it worked out for them when he took over the team

Guess we cant be sure of anything, but more than likely he will.
Quit bragging about Brady. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are laws unto themselves. Its not fair to compare other qbs to them when they are starting their careers. And Rodgers is definitely no Tom Brady. And Brady did have Bledsoe on the sidelines. It seems I remember hearing about the relationship between the two and I definitely remember them talking together on the sidelines and I also remember Bledsoe smacking him on the head when he came back after a good play. Its not like he was totally without mentorship. Rodgers will be.

I can't speak for anyone else, but with me, it's the Packers despiration to keep Favre over the past couple of seasons.
Favre was a legend, no doubt, as at the time it screamed to me that Rodgers wasn't ready, that something might be wrong with his game.

Its true he may not struggle simon. I think he may hit a rough patch, but maybe he can get himself out of it.

Totally disagree with you Lefty. I dont think the Packers were desperate to keep Favre. It most certainly sounded like it was always up to him. Had they tried to encourage him out the door, fans would have rioted.
