Mortensen is usually wrong though...I'll wait for the press conference to be sure.

It's official...word from his agent.

im honestly not convinced yet .... though i do think it is very curious like Skip Bayless said on ESPN2 ...... Favre said he just isnt mentally into it anymore ... but that seems odd when the Packers went after Randy Moss ... would he have retired if they signed Moss ? ...... just makes his excuse seem very lame

im sorry and i may get ripped apart .. but i now at this moment see him as a quitter ..... he didnt get his new toy (Moss) so he is quiting ..... to me its pathetic

I am no Packer fan but consider yourself ripped.
I am very surprised, I thought he would play. I havent heard any reasons yet but come on, give the guy a break. Maybe he just cant take Monday mornings anymore. People have been saying all along he should give Rodgers a shot. Now he's doing it and he's still going to get trashed?
All I know is my daughter called and said "Brett's retiring!" (She wasnt crying but sounded pretty upset.)

And definitely a quitter--17 years in the game, 275 consecutive starts, and all time leader in touch down passes-442
I dont necessarily believe all this stuff about Moss. Everybody and his cousin have been talking Moss is going here or there or someone is talking to him. He was staying with the Pats all the while.

pathetic? quitter? lets not forget this guy is 38. when brady retires you gonna call him a quitter too?

lets not forget that he rarely plays 100% healthy. at 38 thats hard to do. if anything he shoulda retired 3 years ago. definately not a quitter. i doubt moss had anything to do with it. i dont think he was worried about his "new toy". he's been playing 17 years without a moss-like weapon. i doubt that all of a sudden became top priority

Bret Favre is a pathetic quitter? Guess you don't have much respect for Winston Churchill, Rocky Marciano or the fabled 300 Spartans either.

Re: Brett Favre To Retire From The NFL

Wonder if this will somehow affect Micheal Strahan's decision to retire because they both are great friends and Strahan seemed on the Mason/Dixon line whether to retire or not. Favre is on the top 10 of all times for quarterbacks and the very definition of a legend. I'll watch at 4pm to see a man's man and a first ballot Hall Of Famer retire.

Well, look at it this way, simon. Moss possibly going to the Packers. Deal's real close. Reports surface that he wants to call Favre and wants see if the QB is planning to retire or not. Then suddenly Moss resigns with the Pats. Maybe it's not Moss who influenced Favre, maybe it's the other way around. Perhaps Favre told Moss he was planning to hang 'em up and that's why he stayed with New England.

I'm a Bears fan, and I'm almost sad to see him go. Though I do think it's is time to hang them up.

Re: Brett Favre To Retire From The NFL

I think this season was the closest this Packer team could get to the Super Bowl and they came oh so close and since they didn't it's time for Bret to end his amazing career. A truly unique quarterback, a real risk taker and playmaker. How can anyone, even Bears, Vikings and Cowboy fans not like Bret Favre?

This just in
Flags are half mast and the state of Wisconsin is in deep mourning.

Seriously, definitely the end of an era.
