| QB Rodgers impressive in relief The Green Bay Packers like their present with Brett Favre. They are beginning to warm up to their future now that they've finally seen Aaron Rodgers. For two years, Rodgers, a first-round pick in 2005, languished on the bench as Favre took snap after snap as the NFL's resident iron man at the quarterback position. Rodgers threw only 31 passes in his first two seasons. The Packers talked about giving Rodgers some work, but neither Mike Sherman in 2005 nor Mike McCarthy in 2006 could bring themselves to rest the most prolific passer in NFL history. But McCarthy had no choice Thursday night in Green Bay's NFC showdown game with the Cowboys. Rodgers couldn't save the Packers, who fell 37-27, but he made the game far more interesting than anyone could have expected on the road against the NFL's seventh-ranked defense. With Rodgers on the field, the Packers focused on shorter passes, and he shredded the Cowboys on crossing patterns and outs. He finished the night 18-of-26 for 201 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions and no fumbles.
