Favre turns back clock to MVP seasons

By Mike Vandermause
Brett Favre has set so many records this season that he can't keep track of them all.
He had to be told at his postgame news conference Thursday that he had broken the team record for most consecutive completions during the Packers' 37-26 victory over the Detroit Lions.

When informed he had carved up the Lions' defense with 20 straight completions, Favre shrugged nonchalantly and replied: "Well, I'd rather have the good ones, I guess."

Favre has set NFL career marks for touchdown passes, attempts and victories by a starting quarterback this season. Maybe that's why Favre, wearing a plain white T-shirt after the game, wasn't making a big deal out of his latest accomplishment.

"I threw it, they caught it," he said. "Nothing spectacular."

I beg to differ. Favre has been nothing short of spectacular the entire season, and it was no different on Thanksgiving Day. During his 17th season, the 38-year-old Favre is poised to not only break most of his single-season passing records, but shatter them.
His record for most completions in a season is 363. He is on pace for 423.
His record for most yards is 4,413. He is on pace for 4,906.
His record for best quarterback rating is 99.5. He is on pace for 101.4.
His record for best completion percentage is 65.4. He is on pace for 68.5.
His record for fewest interceptions is 13. He is on pace for 12.
His record for most 300-yard games in a season is seven. He matched that total with his 31-for-41, 381-yard effort against the Lions, and has five games to improve on it.

Everyone says Tom Brady should get the MVP by acclamation...but Brett Favre deserves AT LEAST a co-MVP...such as he did with Barry Sanders some years ago. Hell, Favre might even deserve the award by himself considering he has done as much or more than Tom Brady without the supporting cast.

Excellent point. Favre has done a fantastic job - a lot of people think Driver's underrated, but any way you slice it, he's no Randy Moss.

I was glad I got to see the Packers game yesterday. It was a great performance by a great QB. Will this season make him play a few more, or is he done after the year as was hinted earlier?

He sure sounds like someone who's planning to come back for 2-3 more seasons, at least during the postgame interviews.

I don't know why, but I like him more now. He seems to be having fun playing the game again, and it is fun to watch him play. I just wish he would show some in his interviews. He seems to downplay a lot of his accomplishments. I don't want to hear constant bragging, but acknowledge it a little. When asked about his 20 straight completions all he said was "I threw the ball, they caught the ball". That was amazing. It would be nice to see a player recognize that.

I agree. But then, I found Elway much more likeable near the end of his career, too. I guess it's just a thing with old quarterbacks.

Same with me for Elway, but I just didn't want his career to end without a title. I thought he deserved one.

Maybe that's it, but I couldn't stand the guy at all early on in his career. I thought he was the most cocky, arrogant sonuvagun. Not at the end, though.

Naw, they are the same...neither lost his swagger...but like with Ali...at 22 he it was bragging...at 37 what he had to say was a lot more endearing...he still said much the same thing, and in the same style.
