| Defense, Jones shine in Packers' loss to Jaguars In the closest thing the Packers will have to a dress rehearsal this preseason, they couldnt run the ball against one of the NFL's toughest defenses. But their starting defense played the kind of game this team will need for a successful season, and they got further evidence that third-round draft pick James Jones has upgraded their receiving corps and can produce against anybody. Thursday night's game led to a 21-13 loss to the Jaguars, but this was a decent performance all around from a starting group that played the first half. "I think we are getting better each week and that's what's important," said Coach McCarthy. Donald Driver was injured late in the second quarter and had to be driven to the locker room on a cart. It was described as a sprained right foot and the Packers are hopeful it is not a serious injury. The Packers didnt produce anything close to a balanced offense against the Jags which had the no. 2 defense in the NFL in yards allowed, 4th in points allowed, and 4th in yards allowed per game and allowed per carry. Rookie halfback Brandon Jackson had few openings against Jacksonville's starters and finished the first half with 8 carries for only 10 yards. McCarthy might have best summed up his feelings about the starters run game when he joked while answering about the possibility of keeping both kickers, Dave Rayner or Mason Crosby. "If one of them can run block, maybe we can find a spot for him," McCarthy said. PackersNews.com - Defense, Jones shine in Packers' loss to Jaguars
