| Packers' past(Favre) delays the future?(Rodgers) These are interesting times for the Packers. This is an organization stuck in temporal flux. They are caught in the middle of attempting to create a bold future while respecting its bold past, mainly a past named Favre. The man who helped to almost single-handedly raise the Packers back to elite heights could be keeping it from progressing forward again. Favre's defenders say that while his legs are dead, his arm is still alive and his mind holds the knowledge of a thousand players. That is all true. The problem remains Favre is no longer capable of greatness. He's old. He's human. He has slowed. It happens every day in this world. Favre isnt a member of the X-Men; his frame is not fused with adamantium. Thus Favre holds on. The Packers dont know if Favre can play or not. So when Favre leaves--which the way things are going now could be 2035-- and the team will be without a legitimate starter because they refused to throw Rodgers into the fire out of respect for Favre. All this time has passed and all Rodgers has excelled in is holding clipboards and starrring in preseason games. Is Favre the best option? Its a subject that has been broached before but now, more than ever, the Packers need to take a hard look at the direction of their team. Before Rodgers starts collecting Social Security checks. | Re: Packers' past(Favre) delays the future?(Rodgers) From what I've seen and heard, Rodgers has been sharp. They definitely need to throw the kid into the mix, let him start by next season at the latest. Heck, if things go south this year, yank Favre and put him in now. It's time for this team to start thinking about the future instead of letting Favre dictate how things are going to be.

| Re: Packers' past(Favre) delays the future?(Rodgers) I'm not so sure I buy into all this myself, but the article was funny. Probably not if your are a Packer/Favre fan. He also said Rodgers could be the next Joe Montana. We dont know. And think of all the great quarterbacks that got their chance when the starter went down. Since Green Bay is more or less rebuilding, shouldnt Rodgers be in there learning right along with the rest of the "kids"? And dont say they should have a veteran like Favre to lead them, because like Lefty says, Rodgers has been sharp. He has shown good leadership skills. Ideally would be Favre on the sidelines coaching as the back up, but he wont do that. And I dont think its just Favre holding them up. The fans are too. When it gets to the point that more fans are clamoring for the change, then I think they will get the change. I have heard a few Packer fans express the idea that its time for Favre to step down, but this guy is king in Wisconsin. They arent going to go too far this year anyway. So maybe this is the time to let Rodgers play. |

and i agree they need to have Rodgers start probably at least half the games this year when it is clear they wont make the playoffs with Favre ..... then they can decide for sure if they need to draft a QB next year ..... they should probably draft one anyway and let him fight Rodgers for the job seems it would be best if the Packers announce this season is Favre's farewell tour as a Packer ....... then he cant really hold them hostage again next year .... get it out of the way now |
