Favre is no where near overrated, but the Packers need to think about their future at QB. Eventually they will have to go to Aaron Rodgers, so why not start giving him the playing time? If I was the Packers, I would be thinking about the future, not the present.

Why should he be rated so highly? His playoff performances were of the nightmare variety and he made highly questionable decisions throughout his career.

Can you put him ahead of Tom Brady, John Elway, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, Joe Montana, Roger Staubach, and Johnny Unitas? I don't think you can.

Therefore, I think he belongs somewhere on the tier below them which features guys like Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw, Dan Fouts, Otto Graham, Jim Kelly, Bart Starr, Fran Tarkenton, and Steve Young.

I fail to see why so many people are up-in-arms about my statement. It's not like I called the guy a complete bum. I just said that he doesn't belong in the upper echelon of all-time quarterbacks and is best suited in the second tier with the aforementioned names, which is still darn good company.

(P.S. Packer fans should dread the day they have to go to Aaron Rodgers.)

Aikman wasn't even half the QB Staubach was (and I am a Cowboy fan)...you guys give way too much credit to the amount of rings...

I agree, and I said as much in that post. By all accounts, Favre is a surefire Hall of Famer, but I just cannot put him above any of the first seven or some of the second tier.

Again, I'm not saying he is a bum. Just that he doesn't belong on the same level as the greatest of all-times.

That is a mighty small platform you built there...in other words were two more great QBs to come down the pike, one of these mighty Titans would lose a spot huh?...Favre is their equal...not much seperates him from them...for example he never lost 3 Super Bowls like Elway...he never was benched for a nobody like Bradshaw (who was benched for a while for the less than spectacular Joe Gilliam)...he never lost his team to Steve Young like Golden Joe did...and on and on...he belongs on the platform...you are jsut chosing to make for a very, very limited platform,

I fail to see your point. Yes, people come and people go. However, if someone passes those seven, it sure won't be Favre and whoever does will be better than him, so it's moot. It is obvious that not much separates them, as all are Hall of Famers. However, the difference is noticeable between the transcendental players and the superstars.

Are you seriously trying to defend the latter part of Favre's career? He has been wildly inconsistent and shouldn't be playing if it weren't for the luster he still carries for the fans and the Packers. Everything you said above is true, but much of the same can be said about Favre.

Damn. That means that he will beat Rex one more time before he retires.

Yes, but I did not call them 'transcendental"...you my friend are the one going on that fine limb...I better notify Webster...I have to tell them to revise the Dictionary...I need for them to know that a "transcendental player" is allowed to lose 3 out of 5 Super Bowls and still rate a cut above superstar...lol...you crack me up...oh, and a "transcendental player" that manages to win 4 Super Bowls do in part to the best defense in NFL history, but who gets benched in part way through his career, can still qualify for the superlative...

Look, I don't mind that you have a subjective scale on the matter...but care to explain to me how by your definition Bradshaw and Favre are not one and the same?...or say Kelly and Elway for the matter?...

Transcendental...got to remember that one...you just made my night...lol...

Re: Favre to return for 17th season

Regarding Bradshaw... go back and look at the NFL Network "America's Game" special about the Super Bowl Steelers. There's a great segment about how important he was to that team, and how he was so good at getting the best out of Swann and Stallworth. He really was a better QB than a lot of people give him credit for.

With a guy like Favre, it's really hard for me to place him on a list of greats, because he's never had a good mental game. He's been the same gunslinger his entire career; it's just that when he was able to make those throws, he was good, and now than he can't make the same throws, he looks awful. That's his charm to a lot of people, but I would've liked to have seen him make some kind of mental adjustment to his game to compensate for his fading raw talent.

I agree. Farve turns the ball over far too much and he has the decision making ability of a 14 year old teenage girl. As soon as Holmgren left for the Seahawks he became an INT machine.

Excuse me???...Bradshaw?...the orignal poster boy for the gun slinger mentality???...the guy benched for Gilliam...the guy Swan and Stallworth would talk into throwing deep ... and getting picked?...the guy I saw Dick Anderson pick off four times in a game they should have won against the Dolphins...the guy who had the best defense in the NFL backing him up???...that one had a better grasp on the game then Favre???...oh please...I am with Hollywood Henderson on this...Terry, bless is soul, couldn't spell cat if you spotted him the C and the T...

So now we are blaming Favre because he did not blow out his shoulder like Terry and has managed to play 17 seasons...last I remember, the great Johnny U spent to meaningless seasons in San Diego...Marino got his butt yanked in the playoffs...

But hey, we don't remember all that cause we have Favre to kick around...nice memory there guys...
