Don Nelson seeking 1200th victory

Don Nelson has another chance to reach a coaching milestone. If he earns the benchmark victory Saturday, he'll do it against the franchise that gave him his first NBA head coaching shot.

Nelson tries again to become the second coach in NBA history to win 1,200 career games when his Golden State Warriors host the Milwaukee Bucks at Oracle Arena.

With his next victory, Nelson join all-time leader Lenny Wilkens (1,332) as the only coaches to win 1,200 games in the NBA.

Nelson is already the winningest coach in Bucks history. He became Milwaukee's coach during the 1976-77 season, and went on to post a 540-344 record over 11 seasons there. The Bucks won seven consecutive division titles during his tenure from 1980-86, and Nelson's efforts in the 1982-83 and 1984-85 seasons won him NBA coach of the year honors.

Nelson Searching For Historic Victory

Re: Don Nelson seeking 1200th victory

He didn't get it Saturday, with Golden State losing to the Bucks, 115-110. When will Nelson get win #1,200?

Cool Re: Don Nelson seeking 1200th victory

Will Nelson ever win a title like Larry Brown finally did? I don't think so. He probably had his best chance with those great Bucks teams.

Re: Don Nelson seeking 1200th victory

What sad is, he is not a Hall of Famer...he has 40 years in the game as a player, coach, GM...and played on some darn good Celtic Championship teams...he should be in.
