Georgia Tech vs. Notre Dame

This should be a great match-up. Georgia Tech comes in with one of the ACC's best offensive players in RB Tashard Choice, and from what I hear, QB Taylor Bennett is a nice upgrade from Reggie Ball at quarterback. They also boast one of the nation's top offensive lines, so it's quite possible that they, not the Fighting Irish, will come in with the more potent scoring attack. Do you think the Yellow Jackets can pull out a victory in this one?

Re: Georgia Tech vs. Notre Dame

Tech is winning big right now, 33-3 with 4:22 remaining. Choice has run for 196 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Notre Dame has 13 yards rushing on the afternoon (128 yards overall). This is going to wind up being a huge victory for the Yellow Jackets as the go forward.

See, I can't even gauge how good Tech played in this...I keep thinking that the Irish are way overrated at this point ...still impressive showing on the ground by Tech. I caught some of it on TV, and the kid looked good.

Yeah, the Irish clearly aren't all that good, but the Ramblin Wreck I think can challenge in the ACC. They looked good.

man, when you rotate through 3 QBs it makes he think that its gonna be a long season at South Bend...and that Quinn was carrying this team.

Oh, I agree totally. The ND offensive line was terrible. Tech was able to pressure the QBs at will.

Is that part of the reason they went with a QB that could scramble more to start with?...not that I was impressed by any of them. Though in the long run Claussen will be pretty good I think.

Perhaps, but I can't pretend to understand Weis's thinking. From what I saw, he started the worst of the three quarterbacks.

Yep. I really thought he go with the other kid (forgot his name..I want to say Shockey)...and I really though Claussen would red-shirt.

The bloom is off of the rose, and Weis is going to be looking for another NFL coordinator job in a little bit I think.

Is that your way of saying..."Overrated"...maybe he can go to Cleveland and help his golden boy make it big in the NFL.

Sharpley, and yep, that's exactly how I would've played it - start Sharpley, redshirt Clausen. But hey, I ain't Charlie Weis.

Perhaps you should be...beside, I heard all it takes is some creative writing on your resume to get the top job there...and hey, you are a writer...

Re: Georgia Tech vs. Notre Dame

One thing that I noticed, or at least I think that I did, was that when Jimmy Clausen was in the game he telegraphed whether it was a run or pass. He kept his mouth piece in his helmet and fidgeted with it while watching the play get signaled in. When he went to the line, if it was a run, he called the signals and ran the play without putting the mouthpiece in (I guess he wasn't worried about getting hit). On a pass play, he put in his mouthpiece and then called the signals and ran the play.

If I'm right about this, I probably should have just sent this tip to Joe Paterno instead of posting publicly here.
