Georgia Tech award finalists Calvin Johnson and Durant Brooks will appear on the Home Depot College Football Awards show, which airs Thursday on ESPN, live from 7-9 p.m.

The winners of most of college football's major awards will be announced during the show, which takes place at the Disney complex in Orlando, Fla.

Re: Calvin Johnson wins Biletnikoff Award

Johnson, as the title indicates, did wind up winning the Biletnikoff Award. Did he deserve it?

Re: Calvin Johnson wins Biletnikoff Award

I'll be honest. I don't think he deserved it.

here is a break down of some of his stats.

Samford - 4 catches, 26 yards (2 td's)
Troy - 2 catches, 9 yards (o td's)
Clemson - 0 catches, 0 yards (1 rush, -4 yards)
UNC - 3 catches, 13 yards (0 td's)
Georgia - 2 catches, 13 yards (0 td's)

He had some stand out games ranging from 111 yards receiving against Notre Dame to 168 yards receiveing against NC State.

But 3 of the 5 teams that he had subpar games against have less than stellar defense's including my beloved Heels.

Someone that wins these awards should be able to come through for their team when they need him the most. They lost to Clemson and Georgia in two of his worst performances.

Samardzija, who by the way will be on the hill for my Cubs real soon, had 3 games with less than 50 yards receiving coming against Michigan, Purdue, and Navy whoses records are 11 - 1, 8 - 5, 9 - 3 respectively.

They had one common opponent in the Heels in which Samardzija had 6 catches for 177 yards and 1 touchdown.

I understand that Johnson has Samardzija by about 70 yards in receiving. But just pushing some numbers at you.

Re: Calvin Johnson wins Biletnikoff Award

Johnson is definitely the most physically talented receiver, but did he have the best season? I don't know. Samardzija was impressive this year, as was Jarrett at USC and Meachem at UT. Not saying that CJ didn't deserve the award, but the voters certainly COULD have gone in a different direction.

Re: Calvin Johnson wins Biletnikoff Award

I'll be honest. I think a lot of times it's politics. Not who had the best season but who looks best with the award. It's a shame honestly. Most of the voters probably don't even watch all the games. They see highlites. Which does nothing.

Re: Calvin Johnson wins Biletnikoff Award

You have a point there cwstech. Voters for all these things, awards, polls, BCS, probably don't watch all the games of the teams/players involved. However, I don't think giving it to any of the top receivers in the country would've been a bad move. I don't see that any one player was dominant for 11 games straight.
