Georgia Football Preview

Since we're just starting a Bulldog football forum here, I wanted to do a good Georgia football preview thread to get some discussion started. So while surfing around the web looking for some research info, I found a GREAT writeup of their season's propects at Joe's blog: Everyone’s Entitled to Joe’s Opinion

Joe is really down on the QB situation and the O-line once you get past the starters. And I've got to agree that losing 3 All-SEC starters will make for a shakey secondary. But he still manages to predict a 9-3 season which is a decent record for a top tier SEC football powerhouse. I appreciate him giving the nod to my Tennessee Vols with his "PREDICTION: Tennessee 21, Georgia 19."

Joe's probably got it right but I'm going with a 8-4 season record for Georgia. Here's my take on the season:

UGA WKU: Should be an easy opener for the Bulldogs. Winner: Georgia

UGA USC: Spurrier is gonna come out hot in their home opener at William Brice Stadium. Winner: South Carolina

UGA UAB: Not so easy but a win. Winner: UGA

UGA COLORADO: Coloroado can't compete with thiws SEC team. Winner: UGA

UGA OLE MISS: One name: Brent Schaeffer. Winner: Georgia

UGA UT: I'm a big Vol fan but last year they gave up. I'm gonna stick my neck out and say that the Vols can recover. Winner: UT

UGA VU: Vandy will somehow manage to put up a good fight. And somehow manage to lose. Winner: Georgia

UGA MISS STATE: Write in down, Bulldogs will win. Winner: the ones from Georgia

UGA FL: I'm buying into the Urban Meyer thing for the time being. Winner: Gators

UGA KY: Kentucky continues to compete for celler dweller status. Winner: UGA

UGA AU: Auburn takes this one, they are just too good this year. Winner: War Eagle

UGA GT: Any chance this will be a yawner? Nope. Winner: UGA

There's my 8-4 prediction. How about some Georgia football fans chime in and give us your opinion. What's the season looking like for the Bulldogs?

Re: Georgia Football Preview

Georgia features All-American candidate Quentin Moses at Defense of End. Here is the take on Moses curtesy of http://georgia.scout.com/2/522201.html

2005 Starter: Quentin Moses (13 career starts, 102 total tackles, 19.5 sacks)

There are several talented defensive ends in the SEC, but Moses leads the charge of all the pass rushers. Moses decided to come back to Georgia instead of going to the NFL. It’s hard to really know if Moses’ decision to come back was a good one this early in the season, but if the spring sessions are any indication, Moses made the right call. Moses will likely be a pre-season All-American selection. I know that my ballot for All-SEC will have his name on it. There is an outside chance that Moses will be the SEC Defensive Player of the Year, but he’s got to handle all the problems that come with being the top-target for the opposition’s game plan. Moses’ pressure on the quarterback will be critical in 2006. Georgia’s secondary will be getting its feet wet at the start of the season, and the offensive lines Moses and his fellow pass rushers face in September are not the best they will see all season long. South Carolina’s main problem may, in fact, be its offensive line. Moses is 15 sacks shy of the Georgia career sack record – he

Re: Georgia Football Preview

Georgia is absolutely loaded at the tailback position. Thomas Brown was their top runner last year, averaging 5.0 yards per carry, gaining 736 yards and scoring four touchdowns. Behind him are a couple of 6-1, 220-plus pound runners in Danny Ware and Kregg Lumpkin, who combined for 800 yards and four touchdowns of their own in 2005. I definitely get the feeling that Mark Richt's club will be a run-first team this season.
