Georgia defense gets stingy when it counts

There's Mr. YouTube, who has more than 300,000 views of his hurdling a Central Michigan defensive back .
There is the quarterback who, according to media reports, is the subject of much obsession by the NFL.
And there is the receiver, who so far has been the most prolific freshman pass-catcher in the SEC - even more so than his much-heralded counterpart at Alabama.
So where's the love for the Georgia defense going into Saturday's game against No. 8 Alabama?
"We don't really play for all that extra stuff," cornerback Asher Allen said. "Things like that really aren't a factor."
Good thing ...
Given the scant amount of attention received by the Bulldogs defense, it could be a collection of people in the FBI witness protection program.
Quick, name another Georgia defender.
You know Knowshon Moreno, the acrobatic tailback. You know Matthew Stafford, the star quarterback yet to throw an interception this season.
You know A.J. Green, who had his coming-out party last week with eight catches for 159 yards and a touchdown at Arizona State.
But what about senior linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, voted first-team All-SEC in the preseason?
What about sophomore linebacker Rennie Curran, an emerging star who leads the Bulldogs with 29 tackles?
What about Allen, Georgia's best pass defender and a preseason second-team All-SEC pick?
Are these guys underrated?
"I think so," Stafford said. "I think they've been playing well - especially the last couple of games."
Georgia has allowed just one touchdown in each of the last two games, both on the road.
In games that mattered - in other words, excluding Georgia Southern and Central Michigan - Georgia has allowed an average of 250.5 yards in wins over South Carolina and Arizona State.
That includes an average of 11 yards rushing per game.
"One thing that hurt our defense as far as a respect level was in the first couple of games, there were some points put on the board," Georgia coach Mark Richt said.
That perhaps played a role in Georgia slipping from its perch at preseason No. 1 team to No. 3.

When Alabama gets through with them we shall see how good they really are.
