Top-rated QB commits to Georgia

Georgia coach Mark Richt has been saying since last season that he expected to sign two quarterbacks in his 2009 recruiting class, after passing on the position in the Bulldogs' most recent crop of recruits.
Nine months away from signing day, the Bulldogs already have their duo.
Aaron Murray, the top-rated quarterback in Florida, has committed to Georgia, joining Oconee County's Zach Mettenberger as the two quarterbacks in Georgia's current group of commitments. He selected the Bulldogs over Florida, UCLA and about 50 other suitors.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound rising senior from Tampa's Plant High School is widely considered one of the top quarterbacks in the nation. Rivals.com rates him as the No. 48 overall prospect in the country and the No. 7 quarterback prospect. Scout.com gives him a four-star grade and calls him the No. 8 quarterback in the 2009 class.

Re: Top-rated QB commits to Georgia

Richt is putting together a pretty good class for next year but because it will be small I doubt it will get much hype.

QB is a need as Stafford is a Jr as is Joe Cox. The next real stud QB is Logan Gray a SO. Gray is like a small Tebow, good arm, decent size 6' 2" and much more speed - the kid can fly 4.3 forty.

Some of the rumors have Stafford going to the NFL after his Jr year if he has the year expected. While his numbers don't support much but the pro scouts realize how many drops the recievers had over the last two years and the huge upside.

There were plenty of other schools he could have gone to and been successful.

Stoney his son went to Clemson because that is the school he liked UGA was not in the cards for several reasons the most important one being he would have never been the starter.

Aw Com'on

His dad is the head coach and he couldn't start? I have been to way too many games where I see exactly that. So could it be that the head coach didn't want to hear any lip from the QBs mom?

Re: Top-rated QB commits to Georgia

So you have seen it.... happen before. heck we had Don Shula show up and the next thing we know is Mike was QB. Just because someone has a coach for a dad does not mean they can play or coach.

Re: Top-rated QB commits to Georgia

He may have a chance to play at Clemson - he would not have had it at UGA. Plus he won't have the coaches son thing hanging over his head.

Maybe it was his son's choice to go to Clemson. Maybe the kid felt he learned all he could from his old man already. Maybe he needed a change of venue, a change of pace. Maybe it was because he thought he could start there but not at Georgia. Or maybe, just maybe, his decision was made for reasons other than football? It could be any one of a number of things, but one thing it definitely isn't is an indictment of the quality of Richt and his program.
