Rashaad Singleton, a 7-foot center, has quit the team. The junior from Campbellton, Fla., did not accompany the team here for the Bulldogs' game against Gonzaga tonight at the Spokane Arena. Singleton played in 10 of the Bulldogs' 11 games this season and started eight of them before losing his spot in the lineup to freshman Jeremy Price in the past three games. Singleton was averaging 2.7 points and 3.3 rebounds while playing 13.6 minutes per game. He led the Bulldogs with 17 blocks. Price, a 6-foot-8, 270-pound forward from Decatur, is averaging 9.9 points and 5.0 rebounds. "Rashaad wants to play more, and he believes there may be a better opportunity for himself at another school," Georgia coach Dennis Felton said in a news release. "I am very proud of the strides that he's made in his 2 1/2 years at Georgia, both as a student and an athlete. We have enjoyed having him, and I wish him the very best." In the same news release, Singleton: "I've decided to part ways with the Georgia program for the purpose of transferring to another school. It is my hope that I can stay at UGA through spring semester so I can complete my academic work for the school year. There are no hard feelings at all, and I'd like to wish my teammates the best of luck this season and in the future." |
