Many Georgia fans are not going to be jazzed up about the additions of Central Michigan to the 2008 schedule and Coastal Carolina to the 2011 slate.
For the money fans are forking over for their season tickets, they want a more compelling opponent on Saturdays in Sanford Stadium.
Athletic director Damon Evans heard as much during the Athletic Association fall board meeting on Wednesday.
No more Western Carolinas, please.
It’s hard to find fault with adding Central Michigan to the schedule. Have you seen Georgia’s 2008 schedule? It looks like it has much more bite to it now than it did back in August.
That’s because Georgia travels next September to Arizona State. The Sun Devils are 7-0 and ranked 12th in the nation under new coach Dennis Erickson.
Georgia's game in Tempe is sandwiched between games at South Carolina and home against Alabama. Then there’s this four-week stretch beginning on Oct. 25: at LSU, vs. Florida in Jacksonville, at Kentucky and at Auburn.
“Remember what you’ve got coming up,” Evans said at the board meeting. “You’ve got Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Colorado. You’ve got some good people, which is different than what we’ve done in the past. I always cautioned that I don’t want to overschedule it now.”
In other words, welcome aboard Central Michigan and Coastal Carolina.
