David Greene, the Georgia quarterback by whom all successors in the Mark Richt era most likely will be measured, won an SEC title in his sophomore year.

Matthew Stafford, now in his sophomore season, finds himself almost completely out of the race.

But to compare the two and their accomplishments would be wrong, Richt said.

"That year David had six senior offensive linemen in front of him, and Musa Smith and Reggie Brown and Fred Gibson," Richt said. "He was surrounded by a much more mature football team than Matthew is right now. Matthew's days of that are still to come."

Stafford, who is 10-4 as a starter, wants the future to arrive now. "I really try not to look ahead," he said. "We try and win it every week, and I think we have a good enough team to win it every week.

"Definitely the future is very bright for this team," Stafford said. "There are a lot of young guys with talent. Everybody can kind of see that. But we are trying to win right now for our seniors and for this program."
