KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - For most of Phillip Fulmer's 16 years as the head coach of Tennessee, the Volunteers offense centered on bullish running backs that could grind out yardage, spit out first downs and chew up the clock like a Brahma gnawing on cud.
But for two seasons Fulmer's Volunteers running game has operated in the shadow of its passing attack under quarterback Erik Ainge. Tennessee's rushing attack finished 2006 third from the bottom of the SEC at 108.0 yards a game. This week it is second from the bottom at 132.2 yards a game.
