| Slow starts for Bulldogs defense By Roger Clarkson | Staff Writer | Story updated at 12:09 AM on Sunday, September 30, 2007 Georgia's defense emphasized finishing during practice all week. On Saturday Georgia did not have any trouble finishing the game. But the Bulldogs defense stripped a gear to start both halves of Georgia's 45-17 win against Ole Miss at Sanford Stadium. "It was tough. We just gave them the momentum early in the game," Georgia defensive tackle Jeff Owens said. "We were not executing. They were pounding on us, playing hard-nosed physical ball and we didn't start well enough. We've got to play better." Ole Miss' offense outplayed Georgia's defense starting with the Rebels' first possession. One lucky bounce of the ball kept Georgia from falling behind 14-0 after the Rebels marched nearly the length of the field on its first two drives. CJ Byrd pounced on an Ole Miss fumble at the Georgia 4-yard line after Ole Miss had a first-and-goal at the Bulldogs' 1-yard line.
