Sometimes ya just have to pick on people...

My girlfriend got jury duty the other day. And I was trying to my best to "help her" by telling her ways to try to get out of it. This was just a some of the ways I came up with.

- Come into the court with a button down shirt, but have the shirt buttoned wrong...

- If possible, wear your shoes on the wrong feet.

- Talk really REALLY loud.

- Have your hair in general disarray.

- Mumble to yourself whenever possible.

Just a little F.Y.I. My girlfriend didn't go for any of my ideas. And she had to serve on a jury. Oh well.

- If you feel up to it... drool on your self. Remember, you're trying to get out of jury duty.

As for picking on people, sometimes people ask for it.

I would simply say, "I am here for the hanging...who are we hanging today, and why do we need a trial?"

Funny as that sounds I would be more than willing to utter something similar to that. I've seen so much justice go down the tubes due to "pleas". If I were ever forced to be on jury duty I would express my true feelings. "Chances are that this person didn't get this far into the system because of wrong doing on the judicial system, therefore I can offer up my vote right now." I suspect that would keep me off even a jay walking trial.

Re: Sometimes ya just have to pick on people...

I guess that I'm an odd ball. I, personally, look at Jury Duty as an obligation and something it is my duty to do. I put it in the same class as returning shopping carts and not leaving them, loose in a parking lot, parking in assigned parking spots, and not just where-the-Hell ever I want to park. Having been in the military for so long I haven't had much opportunity to serve on a jury but since I became a civilian I have twice. One was a total waste and the other was only marginally interesting. But, it was my duty and I went, meager compensation an all.

I realize that to some, jury duty is a joke and something to evade, like the Gestapo (Oops. I guess I should have said, IRS?). I just don't personally see it that way.

I guess that depends on whether your job pays you.

I was lucky when I had it for a week, my job paid my regular salary for the week.

Some jobs don't pay you.

I think you should have to have some genuine hardship to get out of it, I actually enjoyed the week, or maybe I should say, I found it interesting.

Had I been stuck with the 20 bucks a day Delaware pays you, or the 100 bucks for the week, I'd have not been nearly as interested in the goings on.
