Almost three years ago I became persona non grata on AOL's NA__AR Grandstand (Yes. I am guilty. I confess to being an AOL subscriber at one time. Then I became aware that if you strip AOL from your hard drive, your computer speed increases by a factor of ten) after terminally whizzing in a couple of supposed moderator's Cheerios (Me? Offending by saying what I think? Imagine THAT!). My basic crime? Asking them to explain, in rational terms, the difference between "bashing" and disagreeing with another's opinion.
So I asked my good friend, Mr. Google, to find me another NASCAR-related forum. ««PRESTO!»» Here I am, simple and as mundane as that.

To be honest I have no memory of how I got here (but that same thing can be said for previous experiences involving parties, bars, beds and other potentially embarrassing situations I've found my self in, so go figure). I probably just Googled "NASCAR Forum" and somehow ended up here.

I Looked for another forum because the last two NA__AR Forums I frequented "asked" me to leave, since I have a real tendency to post what I think and what I believe to be true. Diplomacy and political correctness have never been my strong points.

Why do I stay around? I genuinely like to posters here. You are literate group who, for the most part, can discuss and debate sport matters objectively, not just subjectively. The "drive-by" poster who feels cyber graffiti such as ""<<Insert team/player/driver/coach>> SUX!!!" is truly meaningful, is few and far between.

Steve and Bette are aware, I'm sure, of something I personally feel would give the forum a wider spectrum of conversation; allow political discussion.

The reason, I feel, are two fold:

First: If we are lowered to Third World status, or if we lose our freedoms, then of what real importance is sports? Sound overly dramatic? Look around you. Maybe if we involved some of the political decisions our elected "representatives" (term used in its loosest context) make, it might inspire someone here, who heretofore had no idea the name of the respective Congressman and senator, to contact them with their feelings as to how it affects their favourite sport?

Second: We are often already discussing politics ipso facto. Many teams, franchises, sanctioning bodies are operating like our elected officials in the District of Criminals, in that they make rules and decisions which do not necessarily benefit the sport itself or the fan, but rather their own bottom line. One has only to look at F1 to realize that some of the people of influence in major sport are simply self-serving narcissistic opportunists who have only the desire to take from the sport while putting nothing of substance back.

Most of us are aware of those things you said. Many of us may agree.
BUT---its not going to happen. If anyone thinks I am going to moderate any forum which indulges in politics or religion, they are off their rocker. My fellow admins will have to give their own opinions.
We are interested in a different side of sports. Thats what we concentrate on.
Having said that, I most certainly respect your intelligence, thought process, and ideas.
I suspect the discussion forum is as far as we are going to go.
