Need a Dressing Recipe

I need a dressing recipe. My Mom always made it and after she passed away my Dad has made it. And I think I'm gonna have to make it this year. I've only made it 2 times and neither time was edible. So any help would be appreciated very much.

Yep, not the kind you stuff in the turkey. Mine turned out gummy the 1st time and crumbly the 2nd time. So I figured I'd ask for help this time. The last time I tried to cook any was 1986.

What other kind is there?
Gummy means too much liquid, crumbly not enough.
I do mine out of my head. (Quiet guys, no cracks from the peanut gallery)
Follow the basic one from the packaged stuffing as to liquid and stuff. I like to cook the neck and whatever innards are there and use that as part of the liquid. You can use canned broth. That adds more flavor than water.Grate the gizzards, liver, heart, etc and the onion in the blender. I fry pork sausage, drain it and add that. You need some fat, however much it calls for, use butter or margarine. Then chop celery, apples, chestnuts, whatever you want and add it. Cover it and stick it in the oven. I never stuff my turkey or chicken either. More trouble than its worth.

If you're gonna go after me for trying to get clarification ..... read all the posts. I can't see anything in Kathy's first post that mentioned gummy or crumbly.

Stick to ping pong would ya

Since I am a knowledgeable homemaker (you say housewife again and one of us is going to strangle you) seeing as how its Christmas and all and turkey and dressing is popular I just used my reasoning and intuition. Something some people lack I guess.
I know as much about ping pong as you do about dressings apparently.

I had squirrel once when I was a kid. I think they would be really hard to stuff. What do you do with the tail anyway?

Re: Need a Dressing Recipe

Well the dressing turned out great. My daughter talked my Dad into making it. Thanks so much for the help because he said this was the last time he'll make it.
When I do fix it, I'm gonna put apples in it, sounds good and I've never had it with apples in it.

Glad to hear it was more than edible.
I had a couple of spectacular goofs before I finally got it. Practice a few times before the next big family get together.
