One of our own

I'm starting this thread so that those of you who want can communicate directly with Thunderfoot (aka Wayne) about his status, prognosis and to offer your support, trade stories and shoot the bull.

I'm gonna start off by letting everyone know Wayne called me Wednesday and said he has finally gotten permanent housing. I'll let him describe it, where it is and take it from there.

Re: One of our own

Howdy Ya'll,

Well as RD says I now have permanent housing. The bummer is its downtown Seattle in the financial district, which is OK, but there is no place to park a car or work on one. If I had a car to park I would really be up a creek. I moved in last thursday and spent the first night freezing my buns off. The place has steam heat and I didnt know how to turn it on. It was turned off via a valve, and the thermostat on the wall dont do nothing if there is no steam in the pipes. We have had snow this past week end and it has been miserable. All the buses were chained up today expecting a mess of snow but it didnt come. At least downtown. Around here if you dont like the weather give it 5 minutes. The outlying areas got a chunk of snow. Whats really funny is watching the idiots that moved up here from Southern Cal and they dont know how to drive in the rain let alone the snow. The Arabs are real comical. Just regular every day driving can be fun to watch when their on the road.
A nieghbor asked last night "You wanna watch cops?" I said "Sure". So we went out and sat on the front steps!
Getting used to the sirens, cars and people will probably take a while.

I have to wait till the first to get cable hooked up in my place so I have to share the tv in the lounge with all the people who dont have tv's. We also have a computer lab which is where I spend most the free time when I dont have a good book to read. We are in a wi-fi area so I will free internet and get my computer back up, then I dont have to use the lab. I want to bring my big home stereo here, but it would be to easy to be asked to leave due to the need for loud music. I bought it all overseas when in the Navy. And Oh boy, can I thump some floors with it.

I get to make apple pies next week to give to folks for Christmas presents. I had enough money to get a present for Racer Duck but cant afford to ship it till after the first.

Money's tight and I am waiting for my veterans benefits to kick in. Being disabled and poor really blows. But thank the Lord I got a roof over my head and I'm warm. And I got stuff in my cupboards. I got to cook on a stove the other night for the first time in a year and a half. Amazing how we take for granted the little things in life. Makes one appreciate having something.

Well, the clothes won out the other night and I didnt get a lottery ticket. Clean clothes beats a wish any time!

I gotta go and see a thing on tv. CMT's "The ride of their lives" comes on in a few minutes and I got the tv reserved.

Thanks for all the hopes and prayers. They have been needed and well used.

Wayne

One day at a time, one step at a time. You have housing, soon benefits. You're right. Its the small things we take for granted we should appreciate the most. Things will get better and it will be your turn to help others.
Make pies? As in roll out the crust and peel the apples? Or are we talking frozen here?
For my Christmas present, send me and my family a prayer. We could use them.
I know what you mean by driving in the snow. My Dad and Mom moved to Texas after many years in Wisconsin. He told a lot of funny stories when they got snow in that area for the first time.
Fancy that, the hotshot mechanic didnt know how to turn the heat on
Are you able to access a library? I love to read. Who are your favorite authors?
Too bad about the lottery ticket. I had my share all spent already. OH well, thats life.
Take care Wayne. Keep us posted about life in Seattle. Its a bummer that you cant get your hands on a car though.

Re: One of our own

Seattle has been effectivly shut down today. Its wonderful watching the snow fall. The fun has just begun. Idiots thinking they can drive around barricades and make it to where they are going with out the state patrol seeing. When they crash, the state bulls rip into them hard. I dont have any winter clothes so I dont want to go out and play in it. Tonight will get worse after the temp drops. A foot of snow in some areas. My windows rattled last night with a couple close strikes of thunder and lightening.

Yup, I cheat when making pies and use the ready made stuff. It's easier on my broken up old body. It hurts to stand around a kitchen counter.

Today is a day to curl up with a good book and watch the people outside.

You were one of those who had thunder and lightning during the snowstorm huh? That happened here once. Its weird.
The storm is here today. Not too bad right this minute but it comes and goes. More is expected over the weekend. Good thing the Boys play at home tomorrow night.
You're right. Good day to curl up with a book. I dont much care to go out and play in the snow either anymore. Might have to go out and help hubbie if stops enough so he can start snowblowing. Getting to be a big job with so much snow. We have a longish driveway. Not as long as RD's though.
So, are you saying you know how to make pies from scratch? How about cinnamon rolls? My body is no where near as broken as yours but I know what you mean about standing too long at the counter.
Enjoy the outdoor entertainment.

I know its long because you have mentioned it a couple of times. What? ya think I got memory loss or something? Dont you remember mentioning it a couple of times on here? You also have a pack of wild dogs to greet visitors.
And Wayne, homemade is better. Dont listen to RD. When we were going to have a bake sale to raise money, he wanted to bring some along from a guy named Amos.

Yup, that one I know too well. But my doctor downloads my glucose monitor each month and when the sugar levels are too high she chews me out something fierce. And thats after the nurse has her go at it. Sometimes I really hate modern technology.
