| Re: Did You Know... Pretty cool. My husband and I were just talking about stuff like that last night. Because we actually functionally use a computer from 2002 daily and in computer lifetime that's pretty old. We were talking about how many gigs a blue-ray movie is and how it's crazy huge to us now but how it will be nothing pretty soon. I think they're like 30 G now.

| Re: Did You Know... Thanks Duckarino. Now I know why that, at times (most of the time), I feel life is moving just too fast. So, at what point does the human race reach super saturation and just stop functioning altogether? I'm a firm believer that there are absolute limits on everything. Two alternatives: (A) All the mentioned is a precursor to stress and humans can tolerate only so much stress and then they just break. (B) Humans let more and more of this wondrous technology take over their every day lives an inactivity will lead to physical and mental atrophy. I'll still take life with three TV channels, Dewey Decimal Systems in the libraries and slide rules. It was much simpler and far less stressful

| Re: Did You Know... Yeah... I used to think about how much my 103 year-old great grandmother saw as far as change in her life, but the truth is, I am less than 1/5th her age when she died, and I've already seen more change in mine! |

| Re: Did You Know... I've been lucky enough (?) to be in on the ground floor of several technical innovations in my life: text to speech, voice commands, the PC... I also remember when my parents bought their first TV (in the early '50s: a B&W monstrosity with a round picture tube that occupied a large portion of one wall in the living room of our tiny house (at least it seemed tiny to me 'cause I had to share a bedroom with my 3 brothers.) Before that our "entertainment" was listening on the radio to the audio dramas, comedies, westerns, sci-fi programs (in the evenings) and the Sunday morning reading of the Sunday comics from the newspaper. Only occasionally did we go to the movies. But when we did there was a "newsreel" preceding the cartoon, which, in turn, preceded the feature film. But the most fun was going to the drive-in for the movies .. they had a playground down front just below the screen .. and Mom would make sandwiches and cookies and Kool-Aid for our "refreshments." And the digital computer had not yet been invented. The company I would spend 30+ years working for (IBM) was making clocks. Telephone numbers in the big cities (San Antonio was a big city even then) started with a name .. I remember ours was "Pershing" (PEx-xxxx) and the phone had a rotary dial. We also had a "party line" so the cost wouldn't be so high. Even though we lived in San Antonio, we had a TV long before we had air conditioning. And when air conditioning finally arrived it was of the "swamp cooler" variety. We were a single car family .. even though there were 6 kids and 2 adults (but Mom stayed home to take care of the house, which was rarely locked, and kids), so I rode my bike to/from school (in all weather), even to Jr high which was about 4-5 miles away from home. My sisters, last living brother and I were reminiscing this past July 4th about riding in that old Oldsmobile and making trips in it .. some as long as San Antonio to Lubbock .. no a/c, Mom carried an empty coffee can for "emergencies" as planned potty breaks were on the side of the road, and Daddy hung a canvas water bag on the front bumper (that was for the "cold" drinking water.) And the most novel toy of my youth was the Yo-Yo! Times have certainly changed in the last 50-60 years. And speaking of time, back then it was something to pass .. today it's a commodity.
