Alonso has a good point, but it would be a travesty if the diffuser design is ruled within the rules, but disallowed so that every team is on "equal footing."
And Alonso is right: this is a situation where the contenders for the championship will be identified no matter what the eventual fate of the diffuser .. there will be teams who will not be "in the hunt" and others who have a definite advantage.
Too bad innovation is likely to be discarded "for the good of the whole"...
