I would add Jerald Wilson, the Kansas City Punter...Anderson and Andersen as well... |

| Re: HOF Kickers and Punters Hmm... Ray Guy, Sean Landeta, Morten Andersen, Gary Anderson. Vinatieri when he retires. Vanderjagt, maybe? He IS the most accurate kicker in NFL history - just ask him! Not sure who else I would add. What about non-kicking special teamers? Anyone have any idea what a Gunner was before Steve Tasker came along?

Anderson and Andersen you can make strong cases for... Vinatieri over Vanderjagt... And Wershing?...He will have to buy a ticket like everyone else... |

| Re: HOF Kickers and Punters You want the case for Landeta? According to his bio at NFLPlayers.com, Landeta was (is?) the longest tenured punter in NFL history. He was a first-team member of the 1980s all-decade team and a second-team member of the 1990s all-decade squad, one of only 7 players to earn a spot on both squads. He's either first or second all-time in terms of punts made, and if he isn't still the NFL's all-time leader in career punting yardage (57,491) and highest average for over 1,000 punts (43.3), he was as of his 20th NFL season. I'd say that's a Hall of Fame career, wouldn't you? |

| Re: HOF Kickers and Punters Wait... you're comparing him to Steve DeBerg? Last time I checked DeBerg wasn't a member of two all-decade teams. Ten players have at least 1,000 career punts (and I'm assuming Ray Guy is one of them). None of them have a higher yards per punt average than Landeta. How in the world can you say you'd take Roby or Stark over him? |

| Re: HOF Kickers and Punters Quote:
Deberg's comparison is made on yards...as to say...so what?...57,000 yards...whoopie...he just kicked in the age of a 16 game schedule and played a position where injuries are not all that common. Stark's average was 43.1 (only dragged down by his last 3 years) similar to Landeta...he had 5 years over a 44 average...he is no worse than Landeta...Landeta jsut lasted a bit longer... As to the All-Decade Team...not my choice...I always felt there where a lot better punters in the league... Roby was also 43.3 in lifetime and had 5 seasons over 44... both Stark an Roby had over 40,000 yards punted in lifetime... Both Stark and Roby I'd take in my all-time team over Landetta...and I do not see a long line of Stark and Roby fans wanting Hall of Fame induction... How are we always on the opposite ends of Punter related posts?... |

| Re: HOF Kickers and Punters You're definitely right about one thing - punting average is way overrated. Give me a guy who kicks it 35 yards and pins the opposing team inside the 10 yard line every time, not a guy who booms it 50-60 yards and constantly surrenders touchbacks. Coffin corner kicking is a lost art. |

| Re: HOF Kickers and Punters Landeta peed his pants when the Bears were coming after him on his infamous "swing and miss" punt that gave Chicago a touchdown against the Giants. That alone keeps him out in my book. But seriously, the name of the game is FOOT-ball. How many games are won and lost by field position and missed or made field goals? There should be much more representation of kickers at Canton. Guy is a definite. He was an actual weapon. Roby is a good choice as well.
