2006 Predictions Threads

football is by far and away my favorite sport to watch and follow during the season

i hope we get weekly prediction sticky threads like the NASCAR Forum has, i really think it would be neat

maybe along with it someone could keep a little tally they could post each Tuesday or so, to see how we stack up with our predictions in the won/loss column

id be willing to be "Stat Boy" for this season, if the Forum Gods would deem it nesecary to appoint someone (and if i happen to win, that would just be a coincidence)

Re: 2006 Predictions Threads

That's a good idea. We may have to start something like that for the regular season. What do you guys think - just one sticky in the main game where we post predictions for all the games in a given week would work best, right?

Re: 2006 Predictions Threads

That is a great idea, simple simon. I'll be glad to offer my opinions and thoughts about each game, as well as my predictions. If this works out well, I might win my Fantasy Football Pick 'Em League for once.

yeah, id say a sticky just simply titled Week One Predictions, and maybe also one titled Week One Discussion ?

each week we can all list the winners and maybe a total score for MNF as a tie breaker

Re: 2006 Predictions Threads

Sounds like a good idea.

Is this a game for the GoTeamsGo Forum, or just an imput thread?

I'd be equally interested in both but I would be curious to find out if it is a Pick 'Em-type of game or a thread where we all share our thoughts and predictions about each exciting match-up.

i would actually like to see 3 threads

1 sticky each week strickly for predictions lists, 16 games or whatever and you just list 16 winners and also a score for MNF as a tie breaker

no real discussion needed, just a simple "my guess is better then your guess"

this sticky will be released each week to make room for the next week, just like in the NASCAR section

the 2nd weekly sticky can be for discussion, this is why the will win, which would also be released weekly to make room for the next week

the 3rd sticky i would like to have season long, just as a score board, again no real discussion needed (other then a little smack talk maybe) but i could update the GOTEAMSGO prediction score board standings and at the end of the season we have a Prediction Guru

Re: 2006 Predictions Threads

Excellent. I'm automatically hooked!

Should we test it during the pre-season first, so we all get the hang of it?

Re: 2006 Predictions Threads

Some great ideas here, let me throw mine in the proverbial hat.

The Weekly Predictions/Discussions sound great. How about a separate thread for Predicting the complete season. Everyone can get their predictions in before the season begins. Predict things such as Division/Wild Card winners, Super Bowl teams, MVPs, etc.

Re: 2006 Predictions Threads

I'm never good on those types of predictions.

I don't know which players are going to get injured in the beginning of the season and I can hardly tell their strengths by the pre-season games since they mostly play their second and third-stringers.

you cant do much worse then the "experts" some of them are laughable by seasons end

how about some rules for the weekly picks and scoring ?

all picks must be in atleast 1 hour before opening kickoff ? so thursday evening at 7 i think for opening weekend

1 point for each correct winner picked (0 for ties as ties suck)

5 points if you correctly pick the score of the MNF game ? if you can do that i think you deserve a hefty genius type bonus

i think anyone can join the game at any time during the season, if someone joins the forum at mid-season they may not be able to win "Prediction Guru" but we dont want to keep them out of the fun

i would also think we keep it full strength all through the super bowl so anyone can come from behind during the play-offs

"PLAY-OFFS.........PLAY-OFFS ?" <-----(a little Jim Mora humor for ya)

and maybe for atleast the championship games and super bowl we should add more ways to earn points for things like # of fumbles or whatever odd crap just to add to it with the smaller # of games

Re: 2006 Predictions Threads

A nice set of rules to follow. I like the bonuses for the MNF predictions and of course the Jim Mora humor.

Do you want me to make a website mainly to run the game? I can create a form where they can submit their picks and it can go directly to my e-mail or yours so that you can score it. I can help score too, if you want. I love to help out in anyway possible.

Re: 2006 Predictions Threads

desertrat suggested that we might start a private group at Yahoo & use their pickem software which has both NFL & NCAA options.

You guys interested or just want to do it by hand here?

http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/college
http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/pickem

We'd need volunteers to act as commissioner. Not sure if the ncaa & nfl work together as 1 or if they're seperate setups.

Re: 2006 Predictions Threads

personally id rather do it here

the Yahoo system seems to end at the end of the regular season, i think we need to include the play-offs

also, i dont like involving point spreads, you pick a winner, period

i dont like the idea of being able to say something like 'i pick the 49ers over the Colts, if i get 20 points' seems like such a cop out to me

just my 2 cents

Re: 2006 Predictions Threads

We can choose the format we want at yahoo, with the spread or without. There also is my personal favorite format which is the confidence pool. You pick the winner of each game and then rate them in order of confidence. If there are 16 games, you use every number from 1-16 to rate your picks, and each game you get right you win the points you placed in confidence. Add up the points each week for the winner, it is more challenging than just picking winners, if you put the wrong confidence number on a team it can cost you. What do you think of this? We can do it with or without yahoo.
