| It's Official: Welcome Chad "Ocho Cinco" The NFL wide receiver formerly known as Chad Johnson no longer exists! The receiver has officially been re-named "Chad Ocho Cinco" and will be wearing the jersey with his surname - Ocho Cinco - sewn on the back! No, folks, this is not an April Fool's joke (in September?!?) but apparently, the NFL has OFFICIALLY recognized the name change and has "ratified" it! "Ocho Cinco" for those who might be unaware means, literally, "eight five." To CORRECTLY say "eighty-five" you would have to say "Ochenta-Y-Cinco" but for the sake of the English-speaking audiences who really don't care, "Ocho Cinco" is good enough. Anyone remember "He Hate Me"? Speak up if you do... ESPN - Bengals putting Ocho Cinco on No. 85 jersey - NFL

| Re: It's Official: Welcome Chad "Ocho Cinco" This is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever seen an athlete do. And I've seen athletes do a lot of dumb things. But legally change your name just so you can have eight-five on the back of you're jersey? Hoo-boy.

| Re: It's Official: Welcome Chad "Ocho Cinco" What is it with Wide Reciever's? They just always have to do something to put themselves in the news! I hope when Chad goes to another team they don't give him the 85! |

| Re: It's Official: Welcome Chad "Ocho Cinco" Y'all are taking this way too seriously! This is one of the craftiest moves any athlete has done to market himself! He will be the talk of the town at all games he's in. Interviews, features and the like will make sure the "legend" grows. It's odd but brilliant! Want to know what I think is dumb? Naming your kid "ESPN" or some gadawful name because you can! Texas toddler at least third named ESPN Did you know there's a guy in the NFL named "Craphonso"? Not kidding - care to guess what this guy's nickname is? Now that's just downright stupid! Craphonso Thorpe Chad Johnson... er Ocho Cinco, has done something that brings a little extra to the otherwise dull NFL. He brings a "WWF" element while sticking it to the authorities! He got fined $5,000 in 2006 when he put "Ocho Cinco" on his jersey before a game. Well, now, if he puts "Johnson" on his jersey he'll get fined! I like the guy! |

Yeah I really don't care what he wants too name himself. But if he worried about his play as much as he does himself and the media he probably would go farther |

| Re: It's Official: Welcome Chad "Ocho Cinco" They say it's a licensing issue or some red tape crap because of the company that does the uniforms. I say BS (not that I'm supportin Johnson), because they sure as hell did a Favre Jets jersey and had thousands sold in less than 24 hours... I think it's the dang NFL bein ☻☻☻☻☻es cause he found a way to get Ocho Cinco on his jersey.

| Re: It's Official: Welcome Chad "Ocho Cinco" It's not about what WAS sold, it's about the thousands of jerseys, tee shirts and other apparel that was made with Johnson's name STILL on it! Usually, when a famous player leaves a team - like Brett Favre - there are two sales: a clearance sale for the old jerseys and a full-blown sale for the new items! This happens all the time in all sports, including auto racing! (Tony Stewart Home Depot swag is available now at a huge discount!) What I read was Reebok, the official uniform provider of the NFL, wanted to have Johnson / Ocho Cinco - PAY them for all the unsold merchandise that had his "old" name on it. The NFL has a contract with Reebok so they won't risk a lawsuit and until this thing gets cleared up, I'm thinking the fans of the "Ocho Cinco" will just have to wait! |
