British Columbia Senator seeks ban on NFL relocation to Canada

Not everyone is enthused about American football. A senator from Vancouver, Larry Campbell has introduced a bill to prevent the NFL from expanding north of the border. Campbell expressed the fear that the possible expansion could lead to the downfall of Canadian Football and says that every effort must be made to defend the Canadian brand of football.

Legitimate fear or not?

Re: British Columbia Senator seeks ban on NFL relocation to Canada

Hmm... hadn't thought of that. One team wouldn't be a problem, but if you put two or three in the major Canadian cities, yeah, it might be a legitimate issue. Now I can't imagine Toronto NOT supporting the Argos, but I'm not sure what the situation is like in other cities. Yeah, it does seem like a legitimate fear, but I'm not sure placing a ban on NFL expansion's such a hot idea either. Is that what would be best for these Canadian cities?

They have the right to defend their own turf it seems.

Canadian football, what's that? Is it like, Canadian bacon is really ham, so Canadian football is really soccer? Never herd of it before, so yeah, it probably would be in danger if the NFL was allowed in. Nothing against Canada here. I have the greatest respect, and admiration for my neighbor to the north. I love the Red Green Show, and Rush is the greatest band ever, but give me a break.

Thats dumb, the CFl is made up of american players and so is the NFL, it just has a different name..

I do think that if even 1 team moved to canada, it would end the CFL.

Re: British Columbia Senator seeks ban on NFL relocation to Canada

But the NFL and CFL are vastly different. For example, the CFL only has three downs and plays on a wider field. Really, it is enjoyable football (I wish it was shown in the states more). And if it wasn't around, how would we ever prove that the NFL guys are morons for passing on a quarterback like Doug Flutie, or the next player to fit that mold? I used to write for a Canadian publication, and the Grey Cup was front-page news. I think it could and most likely would survive an American football invasion.
