NFL wont punish teams for prior player acts

The NFL's new personal conduct policy will get stricter but each team gets to start with a clean slate.
The new rules that will result in fines for clubs whose players are suspended for off field violations will not be in effect until June 1.
The NFL is pardoning franchises whose players' legal problems occurred before then.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says that the problem of player conduct wont be resolved by just issuing a policy. It has to be continually reinforced he said.

I still wonder what effect fines will have on teams. Goodell is still looking at taking away draft picks and I think that would have a bigger impact.
Agree or not?

Re: NFL wont punish teams for prior player acts

I like this rule, i mean why should a team get punished for a player acting like an ass off the field when they have no control over them? Do they want them to be electronically tagged? or keep them in a cushioned room with no windows between games and practice?...No

Let the players take the heat for their mistakes and unless the franchise is involved in some way, leave them out of it, i mean Lord knows the players will have the money to pay whatever fines they get

Yeah I agree. We don't need any "big brother" in the NFL. What part did the Falcons play in Micheal Vick's pitbull Hell In A Cell? None so they shouldn't get punished for his stupidity neither should any team pay for a players off the field crap.

Re: NFL wont punish teams for prior player acts

Whoa dont think I was very clear here. Sometimes I just figure everyone knows what I am talking about and I take shortcuts. All my bad. Sorry.
There will be a rule for regarding teams whose players have off field violations. The teams will be fined.
But this rule will not go into effect until June 1. So teams with players like the Vikings( McKinney )will not be fined if he is suspended because the violation happened before June 1 of this year.

OK, I think it is a good rule because teams will think twice before picking up the Pacmans and the McKinneys of the world.
I think it is a bad rule because as alex said, how can you control them off field? And how do you know that a player isnt going to just have one bad day and then no more? So the team gets fined anyway. How could they foresee it?
If a guy has problems in college with drugs, or maybe has a tendency to bash his girlfriends' heads in, it would seem teams would have fair warning. And some teams just dont learn. Look at the Bengals. They picked up another loser in the draft.
