Draft leaving NY?

I like this idea!

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will stroll to the podium at Radio City Music Hall on Saturday for what could be the last time.
Meeting with a group of newspaper sports editors, Goodell confirmed today that the NFL is considering moving the draft out of New York and giving other cities a chance to host the event. The league’s contract with Radio City Music Hall is in its last year.
One option that has been discussed in the past is to move the draft to the city of the team that has the first pick. That would give the fans in the city that is home to the league’s worst team something to look forward to, but there are problems, including the possibility that the team could trade the pick, and that, as we’ve seen this year, there is often no suspense surrounding the first pick.
NFL cities that have expressed interest in hosting the draft include San Diego, Cleveland and Chicago. Officials in Canton, Ohio, home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, have also said they would like to host the draft.

It could be his last, he said on ESPN, that if Matt Ryan was available for the Ravens at pick 8 and they pasted, he'd take his hairgell and walk off into the sunset I mean I'm just throwing that out there.

Re: Draft leaving NY?

As long as the crowd is lively, there should be no problems with taking the draft on the road.

Re: Draft leaving NY?

It would be great to have Canton get a shot. I would get to go live then.

Yeah, do it at the Hall of Fame... that would be awesome. And, yeah, I'm saying that because like Az, I'd get to go too.

Re: Draft leaving NY?

Goodell might just be giving us a classic example of what it's like to "think outside the box!"

Of course it would be awesome for the team picking first to host the draft! Why not? It's a surefire way to draw attention to the "suckiest" team from the prior season - unless that pick gets traded... but that won't happen until very close to the draft date so the host team/city still has a lot of beneficial pub...

Think of it as an Olympic or World Cup Soccer - style rotating system but instead of waiting 4 years, this occurs annually! How cool is that? Goodell's onto something here, I think!

Re: Draft leaving NY?

Every NFL city should host the draft; especially small market teams including Buffalo, Jacksonville and Green Bay - to help put money in their economies.

NYC does not need the money.
