Re: Relocation, Who Do You Think Is Going Where?

The NFL is looking more in terms of population and not how loyal the fan base is. Thats a smart move, and thats why they would move a team to LA rather than say, birmingham

No, its not a smart move. It doesn't work. We know it doesn't work. No matter how many people there are in an area like L.A. the teams keep losing money and are forced to relocate. It's not that L.A. can't support a team. They WON'T support a team. History has proven that time and again. So why in the world does the NFL want to keep beating their heads off the same damn wall? Please, Goodell, I'm beggin' you... ANYWHERE but L.A.!

That makes no sense. If there is a city that has a large population, but none of them like football, why on earth should they get an NFL team. That is what LA has proven every time they have a team. They should give it to a city that would actually support the team....not just when they are winning. Alabama hasn't had great teams the last few years, but they never stop supporting their team. I think they would follow a pro team just as faithfully. Lincoln Nebraska would be another city to look into.

Exactly. If the NFL is weighing population over fanbase loyalty, they need to stop doing it that way. All that matters is how many people will buy tickets and tee-shirts, whether a city has a population of 3.8 million or 83,000. More Alabama fans showed up to the Crimson Tide's spring game last year than the average Oakland Raider game last year, and more than the Rams ever drew in Los Angeles. That tells me all I need to know about the situation.

I remember that. They had over 100,000? for the first spring practice last year. I don't know of a more loyal fanbase in any sport.

This was really the only quote I was questioning. 10-15% is nothing when the stadium seats 75,000.

I give the Buffalo area credit for selling out that huge stadium considering the Bills haven't made the playoffs in 8 years.

It would be an atrocity to just pick up the Bills from that market, which stretches from Albany to Southern Ontario and Erie, PA - just so that Toronto Canada can have a team.

Based on your logic, why not just move the Green Bay Packers? Heck, that market isn't even top 50.

I'm with azrael and Lefty, I mean the NFL could put teams in Tokoyo and Paris, they're very populated, so why don't we put teams there?

That is absolutley without question the hieght of stupidity. What the NFL fails to realize it isn't about a single city it is about the region or for that matter the whole cotton picking state. LA is interested in drugs and movie stars period end of story. Alabama has one thing on thier mind college football. Lefty look up the numbers and compare the homefield attendance between the Crimson Tide include the Spring Game -vs- The 32 NFL teams and see how they fare. Heck last season they had 93,810 in the stadium and turned away another 25-30K fans and sent them back into the parking lot. Oh yeah did I mention these fans are willing and able to buy T-Shirts, Ballcaps, Luxury Boxes and all the NFL crap they can possibly put thier logo on? NASCAR realized something these fans buy thier products...DUH! Just because we live in the South does'nt mean we are all living on the set of the movie "Deliverance". The SEC always has the most competitive bunch and the NFL ought to take notice. See because if they put a team in Birmingham and put them in the NFC South Holy Crap it would be on! The attendance at the Saints, Falcons, Panthers, Bucs games would skyrocket. Everybody knows how well Alabama travels. Roger needs to buy a clue.... REALLY BUY ONE!

Re: Relocation, Who Do You Think Is Going Where?

Not gonna happen Stoney i'm sorry. NFL franchises are leaving places like New Orleans and Minnesota and they have massive fan support for more media friendly places that will draw more TV ratings. Oklahoma and Alabama need shopping malls, media attention and a state of the art stadium if they even want to have a prayer of having a team. As for expansion my research when I started this thread at NFL.com stated that the NFL is NOT looking to expand with another team which is the first wise move they've done in a while.

That's easy. Too much money to travel which would also be really hard on the players plus international politics. France and the USA aren't best buddies anymore. Also in those two countries the language barrier of having teams to represent them in the NFL would be a barrier that simply cannot be solved.

The NFL is stale bloated and overflowing with greedy petty owners. Not to mention whiny OVERPAID atheletes who have the audacity to act towards the fans like we don't mean anything. There in lies the problem... until they fix that I could give two shakes less about the CRAPPY NFL! Alabama is just fine without them or any other Pro-Sports franchises. Our college teams will know the love and support from the fanbase and they will get our money too.

Don't beg Roger for this one Lefty mi amigo, the chances of an NFL team relocating to that huge new stadium they're building in 2011 in the entertainment capital of the world is almost as good as finding a fish in the Pacific Ocean. I agree with your logic but hey....reality sucks I know!

Stoney I feel your pain. Ok I live in the tri-state area so I don't know exactly what you feel but I agree that you guys who are REAL football fans should be awarded an NFL franchise over LA who let 2 teams go without even so much as a flinch. Only problem is movies and TV shows aren't made in Alabama or Oklahoma. Again like I told Lefty, reality sucks.
