How Will History Think Of The 2007 New England Patriots?

Well going 18-1 is quite an accomplishment but let's face it...that 1 was the big one and the one that people will remember them by. The team who won all their regular season games and lost the big game to a team they had six more wins than and were favored in double digits to defeat in the Super Bowl. So how will this team be remembered by football fans? Will they be in the class of the '85 Bears, '89 49ers, '78 Steelers, etc.? Or did losing the Super Bowl make them look so bad that this team will be thought of as one of the biggest choke teams of all times? Me? I think this team is going to be remembered unfavorably by NFL fans simply because of the Super Bowl loss. I don't think the '07 Pats will be thought of as a "dream team." What do other people think who are older and wiser than me?

People don't remember the Super Bowl loser. However, I will say these Pats may be thought of for their regular season undefeated streak. But no more no less.

The who???

Seriously though, most have already moved on. Unless it's my team that is the champ, I don't give either team much thought five mintues after the game is over!

Yes but they are the only team to win all 16 regular season games plus record setting touchdown passes and receptions. That should factor into things despite losing the Super Bowl shouldn't it?

Not really. Not for me. You play for the Championship, and it you don't win it all, the season is a not a success. I'm a Dallas fan, and they won the division, set Team records, but I could care less.

The Lombardi Trophy is the goal, and anything less is not acceptable.

Couldn't agree more. Nice feat, but in the end, it's merely a meaningless footnote on the Giants championship season.

Devil's Advocate: What about this though? There have been 42 winners of that Lombardi Trophy...how many went 16-0?

Im a little tired of this thread. The pats didnt choke, giants just played a better game. I think they will be remembered as the team who cheated there way to the superbowl and came in 2nd. (Not saying this is my opinion)

They will be remembered just like the 1934 and 1942 Chicago Bears. They too went undefeated only to lose the Championship Game.

The fact is, the Giants and Redskins are remembered more for beating the unbeaten Bears than some other Champions may be, so the Bears are remembered, but only as the team that lost after a great season.

The same will be with the Patriots over time.
