Packer Ron Cox Selling His Super Bowl Ring?

The Super Bowl ring you see above comes from this eBay auction, described as such:
Offered here is a tribute to the Packers' most recent Super Bowl win, a players ring from the 1996 championship season. This is an authentic players ring and NOT a salesman sample.

Ring Description: A dazzling array of 115 authentic diamonds forms the central "G" motif, as well as comprises the four borders. Raised lettering flanking this display reads, "WORLD CHAMPIONS." On one side, the ring exhibits "PACKERS - 1996 - TRADITION," and on the opposing shank, the player's last name and the player's number border a detailed representation of Green Bay Packers helmet. ...

Note: The name of the player is being withheld. Therefore, I have blackened out the players name and number on the pictures. The player was a starter for the Green Bay Packers.
The part about the player's name being blacked out is interesting, because as an e-mailer to The Big Lead notes, you can make out a very faint 'X' under the blacked out portion, meaning it is highly likely that the ring belongs to Ron Cox, a linebacker on that Packers team.

I have no idea if Cox needs money, just wants money, or what, but if you're a Packers fan with a lot of money sitting around, it'd make a great keepsake.

I don't know why, but stories like this always make me a little sad. I can only assume that the man needs the money. I find myself hoping that the right kind of fan wins the auction -- the kind the will either let Cox keep the ring in exchange for the opportunity to meet him or something, or will donate it to a Hall of Fame somewhere.

It's not even selling for that price and that is the minimum accepted. I couldn't see an "X" in those photo's unless my old eyes are that bad.
