OK, tell the truth

Doesn't it bother anyone about the dirt bag, scummy, illegal and immoral things team do to win, or just how much sports seems to copy society?

I'm as big a fan of sports as anyone, but I don't turn a blind eye to my teams indiscretions.

There has been a lot of talk of the Pats "cheating", Pacman Jones, Mike Vick, and it seems that the fans of these teams, in a lot of cases, are the only ones that think it is OK.

How do the rest of us feel?

I am a big Cowboys fan, but I HATED the dirt bag label the teams of the 90's got, due to a few bad players. Lett, Irvan and quite a few others had suspensions or scrapes with the law, and it made me hang my head, and tainted the team accomplishments.

Is it win at all costs for most, or would you be happy with a very good team that was a contender, but not the overwhelming best team?

I truly would rather have a team that I don't have to feel dirty rooting for, even if they don't win a title.

Re: OK, tell the truth

I hope that mean you are with me! Maybe it is easy for me, since most of my teams are decent these days, and other than TO, pretty much above board, as far as I know!

Now the Flyers started the year off a bit dirty, and the Cowboys have TO, but he is just a jerk, not a big rule breaker or law breaker, just a jerk. You are gonna have those.

The Phillies, Sixers, Bobby Labontes team, all seem to play it straight, and maybe that is why they are still pushing to get better!

I agree with you completely. There were teams I used to be a fan of, but once they started signing the wrong types of players and doing things the wrong way, I just couldn't pull for them anymore. Maybe I'm naive, but I still believe that teams can win cleanly, without cheating and with character. But it definitely seems like more and more people and teams have at least been accused of bending/breaking the rules these days. Makes it hard to know who to root for. Last year's squeaky-clean Colts team was a breath of refreshing air.

Re: OK, tell the truth

I am a big fan of the Reds. That is the only team that I ahve followed loyally since I can remember watching sports. I don't know how I would feel if I found out that they had to cheat to win. I am lucky that I haven't had to deal with that. I did however get to deal with the whole Marge Schott fiasco, but that blew over fairly quick after she got out of the game.

Re: OK, tell the truth

I live in CT, where UConn basketball is the only show in town. Recently, 2 players were caight drinking while underage and one failed a drug test, Jerome Dyson. Jim Calhoun suspended both, allowing one back after 3 games. The team is playing well without Dyson, and I think Calhoun has handled things well.

I used to be a much bigger fan of the NFL, but it stands now for Felons Playing Football and I have lost much of my zeal for the sport.
