Brandon Lang, the gambler who was the inspiration for the Matthew McConaughey character in the movie Two for the Money, has some simple advice for bettors as Super Bowl Sunday approaches: Take the Giants with the points.

Lang, who now has his own gambling web site, told me that he thinks the Patriots will win, but asking them to cover a double-digit point spread is asking too much against a Giants team that, according to Lang, can do the things a team needs to do to upset the Patriots: run effectively, pressure Tom Brady and win the turnover battle.

The way Lang sees it, the Giants' offense is good enough to score 27 points against the Patriots, and the Giants' defense is good enough that the Patriots won't score 40. That means, in Lang's view, that if you take the Giants and get 12 points, you're not going to lose money.

No, but what does this story have to do about the Giants, anyway? It's all about how some Vegas guys can make a quick buck. Honestly, I think this guy must be trying to get enough people to bet so that the line will fall, and then he'll swoop in and take the Pats at -8 or -9.

I'm no gambler so I don't follow these schemes much at all. They (those in the betting world) don't care about the game or how it is played. Their only concern is to beat the odds. The sport is irrelevant. I'm not the biggest stat fan in the world, like many others here, but I follow my sports for the love of the game/sport. I couldn't care less about the odds as far as gambling is concerned.

So do, some don't. I personally don't bet, but I do tend to follow lines and spreads to some degree. To each their own, I suppose.

I'm going to play a little on the game and some prop bets that I like. I like N.E. I think they will win by 14 or more. I'm counting on a couple of turnovers by the Giants. I like the over 54 1/2 as well.
